Mehreen Faruqi and the NSW Greens saw a pro-Palestine activist deliberately u-turn his LandCruiser, ram Helen Haines outside her office, reverse and hit her again, leaving her with one leg amputated and fighting for her life, and their first instinct was to call it "violence against women" and "deep misogyny."
They didn't mention that David Shoebridge was following the attacker on X until he quietly unfollowed after the attack. They didn't mention his ideology. They know EXACTLY who he is. They just won't say it because it doesn't fit the story they need to tell.

Unpopular opinion, maybe, but I have a real problem with the "turn down the temperature" on political debate line being taken.
Obviously we should generally be kind and respectful and treat each other as human beings, but my two major issues are these:
First, the guy who attacked Haines appears to be a genuinely mentally ill lunatic and to the extent he may have latched on to heated political rhetoric, it was almost certainly downstream of being mentally ill. You simply cannot have a functioning democracy if debate is hamstrung because someone somewhere might have a psychotic break and decide a normal throwaway line like "we're coming for Albo" means violence and not voting him out.
Second, people who say this mean YOU should turn down the temperature, not them. YOU should turn down the temperature if you're worried about immigration or upset about tax changes or skeptical about this digital duty of care stuff. They absolutely will not turn down the temperature on calling you a racist for opposing the Voice or a misogynist because you think we shouldn't treat young men like defective women or whatever else they think is out of bounds.

I just returned from a wonderful trip to New Hampshire where I had the opportunity to speak at a lovely church in Spofford. I had never been to New Hampshire/Vermont before but I have always wanted to visit in the fall and see those calendar-worthy fall colors myself. It did not disappoint! I went a day early and spent 8 hours driving all over southern New Hampshire, and then had another afternoon where I was able to visit parts of Vermont. Truly gorgeous!
But there was a part of this trip that felt really heavy. I sought out historic churches to visit because I love history, and seeing these beautiful buildings from the 1700s and 1800s was a delight. But each time I visited one that still has a congregation, it was clear it had long fallen to progressivism. These churches, originally established by faithful Puritans, today have pride and BLM flags posted on them. There was not a single one I visited that was NOT given over to theology far removed from biblical truth. They are associated with either the Unitarian church or the United Church of Christ. It truly made my heart hurt.
Look at this beautiful town of Newfane, Vermont, for example. It looks like something straight out of a history book. But as you get closer to the historic church sitting there from 1839, you see that it has a pride flag underneath. (I don't know if the church put the "Vote" sign under it or if someone else did, but it doesn't seem they mind it being there...I'm guessing they don't see that as Christian nationalism since it's a church promoting progressivism. The double standard continues to astound.)
As I told the church at which I spoke this weekend, the sweeping theological downfall of Puritan-rooted churches in New England is a stark reminder of how readily churches drift as the culture changes. The challenges may vary over time--we aren't faced with the challenge of Unitarianism much today--but the reality remains the same: Christians must be vigilant in understanding the culture, recognizing the warning signs when a church (or denomination) is giving in to the culture, and being bold to proclaim truth when the signs are there.

The Opposition Leader posts a message about Helen Haines, who is in hospital in a critical condition, & some on here can’t even summon the most basic level of human decency.
A woman is fighting for her life. A family is facing unimaginable distress. And yet some people still see it as an opportunity to spew their political hatred.
What on earth has happened to us?
You don’t have to like a politician, agree with their politics or support their party to show a little compassion.
And when Angus Taylor says he stands with Anthony Albanese at a time like this, some even trot out the tired old “uniparty” accusation. It beggars belief!!
Since when did showing solidarity in the face of tragedy become evidence of political collusion?
This isn’t about politics. It’s about humanity. And basic bloody decency.
If there is no unifying common culture, then there is no reason for anything to stand.

You could say "people are more important" about the destruction of anything beautiful, and whether it's right or wrong it would be irrelevant because the destruction of something beautiful does absolutely nothing to help people.

If find yourself blindly supporting every student lead movement, you’ll be wrong very often, in many eras, on many issues.
A good rule of history: if you find yourself opposing a student movement while siding with the ruling class, you're wrong. Every time, in every era, whatever the issue.

Student movements have not always been on the right side of history. Mao's student Red Guards persecuted hundreds of thousands. Students helped Castro and Khomeini rise to power, and Nazi student groups opposed the Weimar Republic.

If the left is to survive we have to revitalise democracy, free speech, living within the limits of nature, universalism and, given what is happening with riots across Europe, self-limiting radicalism. Otherwise, be prepared to accept at least a decade of conservative governance across the liberal democratic world.
