The myth of al-Andalus has distorted the West’s understanding of its own history.
In my latest for @RestoringWest, I set the record straight.
Under Muslim rule in al-Andalus, Christians and Jews paid a special tax, couldn't build new houses of worship, and were required to wear a mark. In Córdoba in the 850s, 48 Christians were executed.
