Latest NHS mail changes are about to cause chaos to rotational members of staff. Information governance strikes again. There needs to be urgent reform.

All the time they’re paying physicians’ assistants more than doctors, the government’s position of “there’s no more money for doctors” is utterly untenable. Updated disparities, as at 1 April 2026👇🏼

“You’re making it very clear, there’s no shift on the money?” @Justinonweb asks new health secretary James Murray about whether he could increase the pay offer for resident doctors, ahead of fresh strike action later this month.

I’m afraid @wesstreeting has forgotten what the “social contract” means. He thinks Drs get a good deal from #NHS. The opposite is the truth. Very few professions train for 15+yrs in order to practice fully independently. Our hourly rate is an unbelievable bargain for taxpayers

“One of the NHS’s real advantages compared with its peers is that it is really good at keeping doctors’ pay relatively low, which means it can spend more money on drugs and treatment” And there you have it; Doctors are expected to subsidise the NHS through suppressed pay.

It turns out that when people that were at the top of the class, and were required to endure extreme self-sacrifice for 15+ years, and start their first real job at age 35, that they do in fact want to be able to live in the nice neighborhood along with the corporate types.

•Since 2008 MPs pay has increased by 60% •Since 2008 doctors pay has increased by 37% •The wealth of the UK top 10 richest people by 281% •Food prices have increased by 55% •House prices by 50% •Electricity bills by 163% •Water by 82% •Petrol/diesel by up to 53%
"Resident doctors are, by a country mile, the standout winners of the entire public sector workforce when it comes to the pay rises they have received." @WesStreeting makes clear everything the BMA Resident Doctors Committee have said no to.

I’ve seen someone else on here suggest that the retired doctor who wrote this was a “junior” doctor in 1974 when he was “happy with £7,500” Just so we’re all clear on the maths: £7,500 in 1974 in today’s money is: 🔹 £114,756 by RPI inflation. 🔸 £72,046 by CPI inflation.

Next time you have to wait to see a specialist remember this ….
1,000 NHS training posts that were to be created for resident doctors have been cancelled by the Government, after the British Medical Association failed to meet a 48-hour deadline to call off industrial action next week. The Prime Minister issued the ultimatum to try and stop the walkouts. @SwainITV has the latest.

This is absurd. If we need 4,000 training places we should have them. If we don’t, the Prime Minister shouldn’t be offering them as a bribe paid for by the taxpayer.

What on earth does it mean NHS trust bosses are concerned with the "conduct of resident doctors and the BMA"? Doctors raised patient safety concerns Doctors spoke out about unsafe staffing and scope creep Doctors pushing to reverse pay cuts What has this got to do with conduct?
Replying to @HMAnderson39
Update: In the Commons earlier today, Wes Streeting said "those jobs will not materialise if the BMA rejects this deal" Says NHS trust bosses "were not convinced" about need for training posts due to concerns about the "conduct of resident doctors and the BMA"

I know there are many issues at present but this is the single largest threat to medicine within the UK. @gmcuk have time and again shown that they cannot be trusted. By removing the safeguards provided by Royal Colleges we will be throwing patients to the wolves.
The new GMC Order is undergoing consultation. The GMC is seeking to remove the speciality register and decide by themselves who should be issued a CCT. This right is currently protected in law. This is the last hurdle before the GMC will be able to issue CCTs to PAs.

The draft GMC Order 2026 consultation just dropped. Buried in it is a fundamental change to who can be awarded a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT). This matters enormously. Let me explain why.

How come you get a 5% pay rise @wesstreeting ? But doctors get 1.5% less?
The expectations of the resident doctors' committee are "beyond reasonable and realistic", says Health Secretary Wes Streeting. It's after the British Medical Association announced a six-day resident doctors' strike in England. trib.al/B4XkL0c 📺 Sky 501 and YouTube

So 3 out of 17 people on the maternity & neonatal task force appear to be primarily working clinicians How can you possibly ask the right questions without the appropriate experience around the table? And no anaesthetist because we only ever do three things on LW anyway 🤷‍♂️
NEW: The 17 members of the maternity and neonatal task force chaired by @wesstreeting have been revealed (see screenshot) Curious what people think of the makeup of this - it will be used to discuss various major updates, including recommendations from Thirlwall and Nottingham

With thousands of applicants turned down from CT1 Anaesthetic interviews due to interview capacity, and 100 few posts this year, we really have to ask ourselves why do we need PAA (AA). There is not a shortage of doctors, there’s a shortage of training numbers

Nice to feel valued… what a way to treat staff. Resident doctors are particularly exposed to mis-payment, as they rotate often, and it frequently seems to be a huge surprise to employers when they arrive. Paying them correctly is complex and often done incorrectly.

Payroll errors that have left doctors threatened with legal action are a sign of astonishing incompetence and must be stopped. A new BBC investigation has revealed doctors are facing legal action from their own employer, including county court judgments and bailiffs, leading to stress and anxiety. Wow, that Cochrane review on nurse vs doctors is actually REMARKABLY bad. So, it's obviously an interesting question, and I was totally suprised to see there have been 19 RCTs comparing mortality between nurses and doctors (!). And the reported CI is tight RR 1.03 (0.87 to 1.21)+
