1/ Now the embargo has lifted, I’ve had time to read the @lengreview in full. While some celebrate minor cosmetic wins, I see the formal entrenchment of a parallel, underqualified medical workforce — built without medical training.

A stunningly well-composed and evidenced thread. I would expect nothing less from someone who has suffered firsthand from maternity failings. Perhaps we ought to hear him out?
There is an appalling narrative at the moment (driven by a small but very powerful group) who claim that ‘normal birth’ ideology & its impact on safety is a made up issue.

100% false. The base did not “burn down.”
FACT: Thanks to a coordinated effort, just 1 structure was lost.
FACT: The firefighting effort on the base is led by federal first responders — supported by local and state resources — given it’s a military base.
Spreading misinformation about emergency situations is disgusting and unhelpful.
Thanks @CAgovernor for letting a military base burn down. This is one of the Marine Corps most important installations and you couldn’t keep it safe.

A lovely thing for a Monday afternoon to receive this very kind feedback from a doctor whose GMC case my @Keystone_Law colleague Leigh Taylor & I have just concluded with no adverse findings whatsoever.
(This case related to a single, serious error which the doctor recognised, apologised for & reflected on from the outset. Why it was necessary to subject a pregnant doctor to #FitnessToPractise proceedings in respect of this, then serve Rule 7 allegations when she was newly postpartum, is a whole other discussion about the humanity & necessity of some fitness to practise proceedings).

It's been an anxious few weeks.
I had to declare the 'Noctor' complaint to AHPRA on applying for renewal of my Australian registration.
They initially refused to renew and I had to submit documents and a statement.
Fortunately, they have not taken the matter further.

Dylan Cope died after an A&E nurse practitioner mistook his abdominal pain for flu, having ignored his GP’s referral for suspected appendicitis. His family thought she was a doctor.
A coroner found he would have survived had a senior doctor examined him.

In the 1990s there was a move to consultant delivered care which is a major factor in why costs have risen.
We would do better to have consultant-led care - giving senior residents and experienced LE doctors more autonomy - empowering them to make decisions and care for patients
That's one way to have safe medical care without wholesale doctor substitution

The proposed protocols, if enacted, would effectively enable the NHS to continue to dangerously use PAs. We are clear - PAs must not assess, diagnose, or manage undifferentiated patients in any healthcare setting. Read the proposals here:
