Some in Congress criticizing Trump's policy toward Ukraine. Fine but not nearly enough. Time to pass legislation by veto-proof margin providing eco & military aid to Ukraine and imposing sanctions on Russia. This Potus has shown he cannot be trusted with US foreign policy here.

It is a basic principle of American democracy that the government can’t selectively target individuals simply because of their political beliefs or what they say. But that’s exactly what the Trump Administration is doing to Congresswoman Ilhan Omar of Minnesota. To understand why this is so appalling, it’s important to know the facts. Congresswoman Omar came to this country with her father when she was 12 years old. Five years later, her father became a naturalized citizen. If Ilhan had been 18 at the time, she would have had to apply for citizenship separately. But because she was 17, she became a naturalized citizen automatically. Congresswoman Omar went on to graduate from college, work as a community organizer, become the first Somali-American legislator elected to public office in the U.S., and win a seat in Congress. There, she has been one of the Trump Administration’s fiercest critics, which has led the president to repeatedly single her out as someone who he believes does not belong in this country. Now the Administration is actively trying to deport Congresswoman Omar, seemingly based solely on the unsubstantiated theory that she was actually 18 when her father was naturalized, and therefore is not a citizen. Federal agents have raided her home, confiscated personal records, and seized her phone — all to try and uncover a nonexistent smoking gun from 20 years ago that will somehow make their case. Think about that. The full weight of the federal government is being brought down on a law-abiding elected official because she has dared to criticize the president. And it’s not the first time this has happened. Under President Trump, the Justice Department has repeatedly gone after those he considers his political enemies — from the Attorney General of New York, to the former head of the FBI, to members of the Federal Reserve. In those cases, the prosecutions either stalled or were dismissed for having no basis in law, and the same is likely to happen in this case. But not before Congresswoman Omar’s life has been turned upside down, her legal bills have piled up, and she’s been forced to spend time fighting unsubstantiated charges instead of serving the people of Minnesota. The fact that any president, or any administration, is willing to engage in such transparent efforts to intimidate someone should outrage all Americans, regardless of how they feel about Congresswoman Omar’s political views. Because if this becomes the new normal, there’s no reason to believe it will stop with her — or that future presidents, in either party, won’t do the same.

Fast-forward 2.5 years: we have a new president, and America wakes up like it’s Saturday morning after a Friday night bender. Head pounding. Pants missing. Stale pizza on the floor. A lot of regrettable decisions. Suddenly, a whole bunch of job applicants discover “Trump administration” is résumé poison. A heads-up to employers: that “travel year” probably wasn’t backpacking through Europe. Ask which agency.

NEW EXCLUSIVE: Why is Kash Patel Planning to Visit Russia? “With so little information available publicly or internally, the anxiety within the agency has only grown. 17 current and former FBI and DOJ officials, intelligence officials, and others familiar with the situation told me they were deeply worried by a variety of decisions that suggest ever-closer ties between the Trump administration and Putin’s regime. @TheAtlantic theatlantic.com/national-sec…

Trump is drawn to Putin like a moth to a flame. It was only a matter of time before he was manipulated into betraying Zelenskyy and Ukraine once again. Putin, a disastrous Russian president, plays him like a fiddle. Trump’s actions will stain the USA’s reputation for generations.

Energy. This crisis has its roots in the Middle East. Everyone understands that perfectly well. Everyone knows how to do the math. If Russia accounts for 2.2% of global diesel supplies, what impact can it have on the price? That’s how negligible it is. And if we don’t give Putin opportunities, his influence in other areas will be just as negligible. He is simply taking advantage of the fact that others want dialogue with him, even though there is no equality and no fairness in it. Ukraine is simply showing that it is a normal, independent country that is ready to negotiate. But Ukraine will not disgrace itself. From remarks at the Warsaw Security Forum. (3)

Disgust of Trump Reaches New Levels in Europe A gilded statue of Donald Trump titled "Orange Plague," also known as "King of Injustice," is on display this week inside the European Parliament in Strasbourg. Danish artist Jens Galschiøt was invited to show the work by Danish MEP Per Clausen. The copper sculpture, covered in 23-karat gold leaf and standing about 2.6 meters (8.5 feet), depicts a naked Trump seated on the shoulders of a much smaller, clothed man. He holds the scales of justice in one hand and a golf club in the other, beside a golf ball shaped like the Earth. The plinth reads: "I am sitting on the back of a man. He is sinking under my burden. I will do anything to help him. Except stepping down from his back." Galschiøt says the piece was inspired by Hans Christian Andersen's "The Emperor's New Clothes," the story of a vain ruler whose subjects are too afraid to tell him he is naked. "Trump represents one of the greatest threats to the rules-based world order, democratic values, and our common effort to solve the climate crisis," he said. "We must address this issue and stand together against such destructive influence."

STOP TRYING TO SPOT THE BOT. SPOT THE MANIPULATION. Recently, the subject of basic information literacy has come up a lot, so I thought I'd write a few simple guidelines based on current advice. I am also going to post longer thread with more specialised information and research and information sources for those of you who wish to read it. One of the biggest mistakes we make online is asking: "Is this account a bot? Increasingly, you may not be able to tell. A real person can post AI-written material. A fake persona can be operated by a human. An automated account can repost genuine material. And a perfectly real person can unknowingly amplify a coordinated influence campaign. So ask better questions. Before you share something, ask: • Why am I seeing this now? • Who originally made the claim? • Can I find the original source, video, document or quotation? • Is important context missing? • Can I find independent reporting that confirms it? • Is the image or video old, cropped, edited or from somewhere else? • Is this trying to make me angry, frightened or triumphant before I have time to think? • Are lots of apparently unrelated accounts suddenly repeating the same wording, image, statistic or story? • Would I scrutinise this just as carefully if it supported something I already believed? And remember: A screenshot is not a source. A blue tick is not evidence. Ten accounts repeating something do not make it true. "Everyone is saying it" may simply mean everyone is copying the same source. You do not have to decide immediately whether something is true or false. "I don’t know yet" is a perfectly intelligent answer. Pause. Check. Trace the source. Search sideways. Look for the pattern. The future of information literacy is not teaching everyone to identify bots. It is teaching everyone to recognise when somebody - human, automated or AI-assisted - is trying to manipulate what they think is real.

Wystarczy. 📍 Nowy Jork, @UN Rada Bezpieczeństwa nt. Ukrainy.
