The world is ready for a third option. Luma is here to step up and fill that void!
Linux phones: could they finally become a real alternative to Android and iOS?
After years of stagnation, Linux phones may be approaching a turning point.
In a recent article, Amos Batto explains how new hardware options, more mature interfaces like Phosh and Plasma Mobile, and tools such as Waydroid could make Linux phones more practical.
But better technology alone won’t be enough.
Projects like PINE64 and Purism have faced serious challenges. Building a phone is one thing; funding software development, maintaining hardware support and keeping a company afloat are much harder.
Jolla’s latest phone also suggests there is a market for alternatives, particularly among people who want more control over their devices.
Linux phones don’t need to replace Android or iOS to matter. They need to become a practical option for people who value privacy, software freedom and digital sovereignty.
Would you consider switching to a Linux phone if it supported the apps and features you rely on every day?

I will absolutely be watching this Linux project with great interest.
Luma Linux - The desktop is called Prairie, and the team describes it as a hard fork of GNOME. Its goal is to provide a shell, windows, fonts, and apps that all look and feel the same. simplyluma.com/download
One of the best parts of building an OS is that you get to question everything that came before you. I realized tonight that we've had gestures for nearly a decade, EVERYONE knows to swipe up. We don't need our phones to treat us like toddlers. Luma is deleting it!

Luma Mobile is now available in alpha for the Fairphone 6.
It’s a Linux-based OS (Fedora foundation) aiming for desktop/tablet/phone convergence. Installation is fully manual (fastboot + bootloader unlock) and it’s still very early.
Worth watching if you want an alternative to the Apple/Google ecosystems.
Luma is now on mobile, and it's available today. Get it on your Fairphone, or port it yourself (with instructions): simplyluma.com/download/mobi…
Quick update, the Unihertz Titan 2 Elite has successfully booted mainline Linux (you just gotta take my word for it for the next few hours though)
