Apple is changing App Tracking Transparency in the EU. Since iOS 14.5, apps have had to ask for your permission to track you across other companies’ apps and websites. With iOS 27.2, Apple is changing the tracking permission prompt in the EU. The new version will be mandatory in France, Germany, Italy, Poland and Romania. There’s another change too: apps will be able to ask for tracking permission again after one year, even if you previously said no. The rules themselves aren’t changing: apps still need your permission to track you across other apps and websites. Another small reminder that privacy also comes down to the choices you make on your phone. GrapheneOS 2026091700 has been announced. The feature that caught my attention is Secure Paste. Apps can no longer read the clipboard directly. Pasting has to go through OS-controlled features such as the selection toolbar, keyboards, keyboard shortcuts or accessibility services. Also included: kernel updates and Vanadium 153.0.8010.47. A young project worth keeping an eye on if you use a deGoogled Android setup. It takes ungoogled-chromium, a Chromium-based browser with Google-specific integrations and services removed, and adds microG integration to bring back Google account authentication and sync. Signal is testing a major privacy feature: You can create a Signal account without a phone number. The new numberless registration uses an Account ID and Account Key, with an optional username. There’s a small catch: it requires a one time fee of around $3 to help prevent spam. The payment isn’t directly linked to your Signal account. Signal says it uses the same zero knowledge proofs as its donation system to ensure there’s no link between the payment and the account. For now, the only payment method is Google Play, which requires Google Play Services. Signal says it plans to add other payment methods in the future.
