Wishing Britain 🇬🇧 a Happy TRAFALGAR DAY!
21 October 1805...the victory won by the Royal Navy, commanded by Vice-Admiral Horatio Nelson, over the combined French and Spanish fleets at the Battle of Trafalgar. Our Anglosphere heritage is great and must be celebrated and never forgotten.

Conservatives have agreed to enter cross party talks on a new settlement for social care, but we are clear that this cannot mean new tax rises for residents.

I’ve written to the people of Clacton because they don’t deserve to be used by Nigel Farage to distract from his £5mn problems.
This by-election is fake and he knows it.
He disrespects his own constituents, demanding they exonerate him before the facts have been established👇

Just heartbreaking to hear the news about Rod Liddle.
I don’t have the words to express how sad this is. For journalism, for his readers and most of all his friends and family. Had missed his column and hearing his voice on the radio. Thought he was on a break.
Rest in peace, Rod. You will be very much missed.

Yesterday Cabinet ministers were joking about letting criminals out of jail early. Today we learn that the vile thugs who killed PC Andrew Harper are eligible for early release under Labour.
Burnham has already said he doesn’t think rapists and paedophiles should be out early. I sincerely hope that extends to the killers of emergency workers. My heart goes out to PC Harper’s family. There is no justification for this.

I wish Andy Burnham every success as Prime Minister. But it is my job to hold him to account.
Every announcement he makes should be properly funded. We cannot borrow more money and the tax burden is already too high, so the only answer is spending cuts.
I will work with him in the national interest to find savings from the benefits bill. If we reach agreement, my Conservative MPs will vote for those cuts in Parliament. That's the way to get Britain working.

The Lib Dems are happy to help Labour ensure that the new Burnham government can avoid scrutiny for the next six weeks.
How very democratic.

The Lib Dems. Possibly the most dishonest politicians in the country.

Lib Dem peers voting for poorer scrutiny, less accountability and more executive diktat - it’s a legitimate position - but neither liberal nor democratic….
Today, Conservative peers voted for Lord True's business of the House motion which would have enabled a debate on the new Prime Minister's policies and plan for government.
Having changed the programme in the House of Commons to avoid the Prime Minister facing scrutiny this week, Labour and the Liberal Democrats joined forces to block Parliamentary scrutiny in the House of Lords, helping Andy Burnham shirk accountability.
The Conservatives will always stand up for Parliament’s right to hold the Government to account.

In the last few hours alone Andy Burnham’s Government has talked about:
Cutting energy bills
Lifting the personal tax allowance
Nationalising Thames Water
The biggest council house programme since the War
Giving mayors more funding
Creating a new National Care Service
More overseas aid
Cutting student loan repayments
More employment support
Ending homelessness
These are billions of pounds of spending commitments and that's on top of raising defence spending to 3%.
Where’s the money coming from?
There’s been no serious explanation at all of how they will be funded. I am very concerned the Prime Minister is making a lot of promises without giving the country an explanation about how we can afford them.
We cannot borrow even more - we are paying more in debt interest than we do on defence.
The answer can’t be tax rises either. The tax burden is already far too high, and families and businesses shouldn’t face even higher bills.
The only answer is to cut spending. Andy Burnham should be in Parliament explaining what his actual plans are and how he is going to pay for them.

Rachel, you boasted about being the first woman Chancellor and you have been appalling.
The sheer stupidity of your Budget caused thousands of businesses to close, hundreds of thousands of jobs to be lost.
The interest repayment on our debt rocketed because you were criminally useless and the markets knew you didn’t dare cut public services.
You have let down your sex and damaged Britain.
It has been the privilege of my life to serve as the Chancellor of the Exchequer.
The economy today is stronger, fairer and more resilient because of the choices we have taken as a Labour Government over the past two years.
Stability restored, investment delivered and reform to our economy under way. I said when I was appointed Chancellor that I would judge my time in office if the lives ordinary working class people have been improved. I’m proud to say that they have.
And to every young woman and girl let my time in office show there should be no ceilings on your ambitions, your hopes or your dreams.
I wish the very best of luck to my successor, Andy and his cabinet. You have my full support, and I will continue to play my part in helping this Labour government deliver the change the country needs.

Andy Burnham is about to become Prime Minister.
But he still won't tell us what he plans to do. He won't talk to the media and he won't answer to Parliament.
In fact, he's just intervened to make sure that MPs can't scrutinise his plans. What's he so afraid of?

Under Labour #Merton has the lowest possible rating for pothole repair that the government can award. Our roads need urgent improvement!
