How is vision and language related in human material perception? New paper from my lab is now out at
@PLOSCompBiol. We find verbal descriptions capture material appearance at a coarse level, but precise alignment is still lacking. @liao_oial @mswym8

Headed to #SfN24, @SfNtweets. Allison Fultz and Sriram Thothathri, both amazing postbacs in the lab, are presenting their posters tomorrow (Tuesday AM). Check them out:
Thanks also to the fantastic collaborators in both projects, Bharath Talluri, @shush_ruth, @shadlen, Christina Jacob, Carlos Mejias-Aponte, Fran Nadal-Nicolas and @Wei_Li_Vision.
looking forward to this.
🧠At NACS Seminar tomorrow, Dr. Hendrikje Nienborg (@nienborglab) will tell us about "Perceptual decisions as action-perception loops in neural circuits." The talk is at 10:15am in BRB 1103. Please check the flyer below for more info!

One week from today: @NatEyeInstitute is hosting a Visual Neuro-Plasticity workshop (free & virtual). This is an area where we feel there may be potential for scientific advances and future clinical impact.
Weds 1/10/2024 (10am ET).

ALT Oculomotor learning is a classic example of neuroplasticity, involving cerebellar synapses, brain circuits, and visual signals. Circuit tracing using Brainbow multicolor labeling. Three-dimensional reconstruction of cerebellar mossy fiber axons and granule cells. A mossy fiber contact with a granule cell is visible (indicated by the white arrowhead). Reproduced with permission from Weissman, T.A, et al. Generating and Imaging Multicolor Brainbow Mice. Cold Spring Harb Protoc. (2011); (7):763-9; Image courtesy of Joshua R. Sanes.
Looking forward to #SFN23, @SfNtweets . Please check out our lab’s posters:
And thanks so much to all our fantastic collaborators in these projects: Bharath Talluri, Incheol Kang, @jcbyts, @NeuralCodeUMD, @mightyrosequinn, Adam Lazere, Nick Kallis, @gongchen_yu, @Leorkatz, Rich Krauzlis, Carlos Mejias-Aponte, Francisco Nadal-Nicolas, Wei Li
We have a 5-year postdoc position in my lab @NatEyeInstitute, @NIH, details are here:

My lab @UDelaware is recruiting graduate students in cognitive neuroscience. Contact me if you are interested and please share the word. Here is more info about the MVP Lab: mvaziri.github.io/Homepage/m…
and the program: mvaziri.github.io/Homepage/E…
Many thanks to the amazing team: Bharath Talluri, Incheol Kang, Adam Lazere, @NickKaliss,@mightyrosequinn and wonderful collaborators, @jcbyts, @NeuralCodeUMD.
In primates, activity in visual cortex is minimally driven by spontaneous body movements. These results confirm the functional specialization of primate visual processing and contrast with findings in mice.

Thanks to Christine Curcio (@AMD_histo_lab) for visiting @NatEyeInstitute!
Beautiful talk about her work (& collaborators) integrating aging, histology, imaging: “age-related macular degeneration as a mathematically tractable disease” especially from remarkable imaging advances.
