Companies should “declassify” artifacts from turning points in company history.
A transformative all-hands, demo Friday that show v0 of trajectory-changing product, memo that resulted in refounding moment, late night slack thread that unlocked new engineering paradigm, etc.
I’d watch every single one.

There is a throwaway line in a WSJ story about the Seattle mayor’s failures about how reps from her admin traveled to SF to learn how Lurie was leading such a successful turnaround and were stunned by how it seemed to be connected to hiring competent people who know what they’re doing.
Nordstrom Rack will open next year at 2 Stockton Street, near Union Square! Three years ago, companies were leaving San Francisco. Today, they want to be here, and Nordstrom Rack’s decision to return to the heart of our city is another sign of the growing confidence in San Francisco. The 50,000 square foot Nordstrom Rack is just the latest example of retail coming back downtown.
We're making our streets safer and cleaner, bringing people back downtown, cutting red tape, and creating the conditions for businesses to succeed. I'm thrilled that Nordstrom is choosing to invest in San Francisco again, and look forward to welcoming Nordstrom Rack as we continue building on our city's momentum.
I saw the HN post, but I like to imagine that this account is actually going through Invisible Cities.
turns out, we are going to get the winampification of software.

Thinking about “when a judgment costs nothing”
What does observability look like when a judgment costs nothing?
I'm exploring Signals for evlog.dev, built on Jev by @typesafeai.
Describe a column in plain English. Every wide event gets it: typed, with a confidence.
Some news from the Beattie household:
Baby girl #2 arrived earlier this month! Mom and baby are happy and healthy, and big sister is taking her new job very seriously (lots of practicing with her stroller).

The Navier Stokes proof drama is good foreshadowing for what happens / becomes important in the entire economy going forward: spotting opportunities, pointing models at them, and validating solutions faster than others. In other words, the economy / knowledge discovery increasingly looks like quant trading / pod shops / HFs, where having a differentiated view of why an opportunity is valuable and/or realizing that an opportunity is valuable (and that it can be plausibly captured/exploited) faster than others is all that matters.
This is from a piece I wrote in October 2025 and I think it will continue to hold a lot of explanatory power.
We congratulate Levent Alpöge and Tristan Buckmaster on their remarkable mathematical work.
We (the researchers and the agents) did not see any of their work through any means until they released it publicly — in particular, no specific user data was accessed in order to solve this problem.
While unlikely, we cannot rule out that de-identified data derived from their usage of our products helped improve our models.
However, our proofs differ significantly and even the precise results proved are different in the Euler case (forced vs. unforced).
Models are insanely good but sota still using iMessage/app paradigm vs entire OS. Crazy we don’t quite have this yet.
I used to be kind of precious about ideas, how unbelievably naive. It’s hard as hell to execute/build companies. Plus, the chances someone is as passionate about the idea or has the same vision as you are near zero. Better to share, validate with others, encourage competition, and open yourself to collaboration.
Disagree. You still don’t see that many side projects from folks. There’s a ton of talk about how coding is dead. Design is cooked. The PMs are building now!! But… where are all the good apps?
Launching projects is more about grit. Turns out that is still in short supply.
I've been struggling to articulate this similar feeling:
It's strange that I need to get to know some new "personalities" to get the work done when their capabilities have no differentiation. Creating/managing/remembering the personas is additional work for me. I would rather work by project + multiple threadable tasks/conversations.
Grok Bot is a cool harness but the personas are weird! Why make the user have to think about which agent to speak with vs. unified input and delegate out underneath?
Single input field + conversation stack is the best hci jump we've made with software in ages...going back to Person -> Conversation feels backwards.
