A 14-year-old Israeli boy was killed and about 24 others (mostly students and teachers) injured on a northern Israel school trip on Oct 12 when an unexploded Hezbollah cluster munition detonated after being handled. Israeli military sources link it to prior Hezbollah fire. BBC has published no report on it.
If anyone is ever put in this position, say, "I don't believe the term Zionist fits by modern definitions, and don't use it. I am Jewish and I believe Israel is our homeland." Now if they kick you out, it's religious discrimination.
A Jewish comedian was expelled from a north London writers’ group after he admitted being a Zionist.
Harry Deansway was thrown out of the Offbeat Writer’s Group after Ruby Sullivan, its organiser, questioned him about his views on Israel.
When he explained that he was “Jewish and a Zionist”, but that he supported Palestinian rights and opposed actions that caused suffering to the Palestinian people, she replied: “I don’t think there is a place in the Offbeat Writers’ Group for you because of this.” telegraph.co.uk/news/2026/10… @Telegraph
No, but the post you retweeted was about delegating airline check-in to AI, and then you blocked me for pointing that out, which is a little childish.
I just heard @OmarchyLinux described as "applescript for linux with a mcp server" -- is that accurate @dhh ; I think the slow death of applescript was one of the dumbest things apple/the tech industry ever did
The power has been out on my block for around 5-6 hours. I've got candles lit and am listening to WRMI on shortwave radio. It's very nostalgic.
I think Israel should pay west-bank Palestinians $189billion to move to another country. This would be 2x the value of their land, 10x their per-capita gdp, and $5k / per person ($63k). This would not include Arabs w/ Israeli citizenship, or those who could pass...
Have to renew my GCP cert. To do that I have to go through online training courses... That I wrote. I will be graded at the end using a quiz... That I wrote. :/ why is this making me depressed?
I don't get how people slack when working remote. I'm sick, but I'd have to be so much sicker to take off because I feel like it will be perceived as faking it, even though I know it wouldn't be.
I'm very suspicious of the "rewrite in rust" trend. Not saying that this is the case here, but it seems like it allows the author to claim to be the "author", without any of the hard architecture decisions made over decades. Seems like incentives for rewrites when not necessary.
a Postgres rewrite in Rust that passes all 46,066 regression tests. 100 percent compatibility, not a toy clone.
it even compiles Postgres in your browser via WASM, so you get a real REPL in a tab.
experimental, but that number is wild.

Jason Arday found dead
Academic had resigned from the University of Cambridge last week
Jason Arday, the former University of Cambridge professor, has been found dead.
Mr Arday was found “unresponsive” at an address in Battersea, south London, on Friday afternoon. He was later pronounced dead at the scene.
A spokesman for the Metropolitan Police said officers were called by the London Ambulance Service at 3.12pm on Friday.
He said: “Sadly, a 41-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene. His next-of-kin have been informed and are being supported by officers.
“At this time his death is being treated as unexpected, but is not believed to be suspicious. The case is being investigated by officers from the Met’s Central South Command Unit. A file will be prepared for the coroner.”
I don't know why people are so surprised by this. I took the train as a kid all the time in Boston during the 80s. I knew our home telephone number and address and my dad said to ask someone for help if I got lost.
In Tokyo, seven-year-olds still ride the subway alone.
No parent. No guard. Just a small child with a train pass and a yellow hat.
Visitors film it like a miracle.
It is not a miracle.
It is the result of decades of high-trust policy: consistent rules, controlled borders, and a society that still expects people to follow the same basic standards.
That kind of safety is an inheritance.
Once it is spent, it does not return easily.
It seems like almost all of the internet internet is:
- ai generated (lie)
- rage bait (lie)
- question (with already known answer (lie))
- reposting someone else's content as their own (lie)
- political pandering (lie/oversimplification)
- ads (almost always a lie)
For anyone who uses Prot's emacs denote utility for knowledge-bases, I put together a quick tool to create / add notes from outside of emacs. github.com/nicholasbernstein…
Like everyone else, I've been having ai write code for me. One thing I've found is that it varies in quality by the language a decent bit. I've found functional programming and functional programming languages like clojure do really well.

The federal government should offer to buy up any apartment building in NYC for which an owner can prove that he can't make a profit with the new "rent freeze." Then when it takes possession, ignore the rent freeze, given that the city can't regulate federal property. And take the money out of federal aid to NYC housing.
