The Impact Forum, a pressure group focused on immigration issues, says it has called off planned protests after securing a government commitment to recruit 10,000 immigration officers. Group leader Rollence Mabula said the organisation believes that mass deportations are not a sustainable solution if South Africa’s borders remain porous and enforcement capacity remains weak. Mabula argued that the Department of Home Affairs is severely understaffed, claiming it is meant to operate with around 18,000 employees but currently has fewer than half that number, making effective enforcement of immigration laws difficult. @ThisKg @YOUFM898

BREAKING: The Commission’s Recommendations Investigative Task Team has hit suspended Organised Crime Unit Sergeant Fannie Nkosi with fresh charges of defeating and obstructing the course of justice. Nkosi is expected to appear in the Thohoyandou Magistrate’s Court today on the new allegations. According to court papers, the charges relate to a November 2022 Limpopo arrest. A suspect was caught with dagga, unlicensed firearms and explosives.
Nkosi allegedly collected the original docket from Thohoyandou, claiming he was acting on Head Office instructions. Months later he returned, identified himself as a Colonel, removed the confiscated cannabis from police custody and later booked it in at Head Office — with one exhibit bag reportedly tampered with.
The development piles pressure on Nkosi, who was dramatically arrested in early April after a raid on his Pretoria North home uncovered multiple police dockets (including closed cash-in-transit and hijacking cases), a stun grenade, hundreds of rounds of ammunition, firearms, and around R52 000 in cash hidden under a mattress. He already faces charges of unlawful possession of explosives, failing to secure firearms, theft, money laundering and further counts of defeating the ends of justice.
Bail was denied on 22 April and he remains in custody. Nkosi was suspended in late March following explosive testimony at the Madlanga Commission. Investigations continue. #BreakingNews #FannieNkosi #SAPS #PoliceCorruption #LimpopoCrime #MadlangaCommission #SouthAfricaNews #OrganisedCrime #ThohoyandouCourt #SAPSArrest

As the country marks World Aids Day on 1 December, the North West provincial government has urged urgent collective action to protect young girls from HIV infection. Speaking during the provincial commemoration in Tlhabane near Rustenburg, Premier Lazarus Mokgosi reported a concerning rise in HIV/AIDS cases among girls aged 16 to 25. Mokgosi attributed the spike to relationships between young girls and older men, who often use money and alcohol to influence them and discourage the use of protection. He strongly condemned the practice, saying it jeopardises the future of young people.
