The temptation to Just Quit is strong but writing has always been the one thing I know I'm good at and there are still people out there, now more than ever, who are gonna need my words. Who are gonna need yours, too. So let's make it harder for them to take those words from us.

In the book Roots, Kunta Kinte was about 16 years old when he was captured, purchased, enslaved, and tortured.
In the book Roots, Kizzy Kinte was about 16 years old when she was raped by the white man that purchased, enslaved, and tortured her.
Said differently, Kunta and Kizzy were the exact same age as some of the very students banned from reading this book when they were purchased, enslaved, and tortured.
Knox County Schools adds Pulitzer Prize-winning 'Roots' to list of banned books
Knox County Schools recently took Alex Haley's influential novel, "Roots," off library shelves under the Age-Appropriate Materials Act

Shy'tyra Burton is 22 years old. She lives in Philadelphia with her dad, a city sanitation worker. Her IQ tests below seventy. After years of medical evaluations and a hearing in front of a federal judge, she qualifies for SSI — $994/month. Now Trump's people are writing a rule that would take up to $330 of that every single month, by assessing the dollar value of her bedroom and deducting it from her benefit.
This is the second attempt. The first one was killed when ProPublica exposed it. Same people — Russell Vought at OMB and Frank Bisignano at SSA — are back with a new version, buried deeper in the regulatory process. Up to 400,000 disabled Americans could lose benefits.
Forty Down syndrome organizations have already sent a letter opposing it. The National Association of Evangelicals — not a liberal group — has come out against it. When you've lost the evangelicals on a disability cut, you've lost the room.
The man writing this rule had to Google what the Social Security Commissioner does when Trump offered him the job. A Republican congressman called his testimony "embarrassing for my side." Now he's deciding whether Shy'tyra keeps her check.
The rule is in OMB review. A public comment window is coming. That's how it was stopped last time.

Speaking of gerrymandering, have you heard of prison gerrymandering?
White Republicans use incarcerated people to be counted by the census as residents of the town the PRISON is located in rather than their home communities. This increases their political representation and FUNDING for those districts while incarcerated people themselves cannot vote.
What you allow to happen to incarcerated people will happen to you.

At least one sentence in that essay doesn't even make grammatical sense. Like no matter how many times I read it I couldn't figure out what it was supposed to say. Maybe the prof could excuse ignorance but drew the line at bad writing.
My parents lived in a remote backwoods and had to drive bumpy country roads for nearly an hour to the nearest hospital. Thus, I was very nearly born in my dad's old Chevy pickup truck in a parking lot.

I’m posting this everywhere now because clearly there’s tons of people out there who need to hear this 🫂💛
I know we complain too much about comps and they exist for a valid reason so this isn't really a complaint, but the book I wish I could comp my WIP to is an adult book with teen characters but I wrote a YA book for the kind of teens who read that even though it's not for them yet
Camp Lanier by Sylvester Barzey. First of all, more people should know about this book. Second, people keep saying they should make a horror movie about Lake Lanier and this book already gives us a perfectly cinematic plot for one. I could practically see it as I read it.
Hi I'm Mo & my toxic traits are
• Making the title a pun abt a character/place name in the story
• Making all my MCs some combination of disabled/queer/Jewish
• Setting everything in Georgia
• Oops! The real villain is a bigot/abuser/The System. The literal monster is chill.
I'm a day late but yesterday was the 20th anniversary of Supernatural, so here's the reference to it I snuck into my book.

ALT Photo of a book page. Text reads: "We won't get the goats till we're settled in, but I'm getting a bonded pair of cats! I named them Sam and Dean." When I look blankly at her, Chapel launches into a long description of some show about two brothers who hunt monsters. I shake my head. I've had enough monster-hunting for now.

No White person should dictate which exhibits are on display at an African American museum.
