Highly annoying to see the @scouts inventing the law to suit themselves. Section 6 of the Land Reform (Scotland) Act 2003 has no such exemptions. If it did no one could go onto a deer-shooting estate. "Integrity - We act with integrity; we are honest, trustworthy and loyal."

All of Europe, UK including, needs to get off American technology underpinning our critical services asap. We can be blackmailed & bullied by a rogue US until we actually run on core defence & telecomms that we have a stake in. That is another reason why we should join the EU.

America may eventually change its president. But Europe may never return to the dependency it once accepted. Something remarkable is happening across Europe. First, defence. Europe is investing in its own military industry, production capacity and strategic capabilities. Then satellites. European programmes such as IRIS² and GOVSATCOM are building alternatives to dependence on American-controlled communications infrastructure. Now, even payment systems. Europe is developing alternatives to Visa and Mastercard through initiatives such as Wero and the digital euro. Different industries. The same underlying objective. Strategic autonomy. Europe learned from Russia that energy dependence could become a geopolitical weapon. Now it is confronting an uncomfortable question: what happens when even your closest ally can use technological and economic dependence as political leverage? The irony is extraordinary. Washington wants to preserve American influence in Europe. Yet its confrontational policies may be accelerating the very European independence that could reduce that influence. And here is the part that future American administrations should consider carefully: Diplomatic relations can be repaired. Trust takes much longer. Factories will not close because a new president takes office. Satellite constellations will not disappear. European payment infrastructure will not simply be dismantled. Europe can remain America's ally without remaining dependent on America. The United States may change its leadership in four years. But Europe is changing its strategic architecture for decades. And that may prove to be one of the most lasting geopolitical consequences of this era.

If we cannot be 100% certain that a technology will be available when we need it most, we cannot trust it at all. That’s how trust works. Either it’s absolute, or it doesn’t exist.

🇺🇦 Zelenskyy delivers a blunt message to the United States: “Just give us Starlink back. If you refuse, Ukraine will survive. We will continue defending ourselves with or without it. But why would you restrict a country fighting for its survival? Why make it harder for us to defend our people? I simply cannot understand the reasoning behind this decision. It is a mistake.” Ukraine isn’t asking America to fight its war. It’s asking America not to stand in the way of its defense.

Ad ogni italiano l’appoggio all’Ucraina è costatato 3 centesimi al giorno e 11 euro l’anno. Mi sembra un costo modico per garantirsi libertà e democrazia . Sono stufo di sentire stronzate

By aligning the United States with Russia against Ukraine, Trump has led the country into a strategic disaster and a moral abyss. Americans like to think of themselves as champions of bravery and freedom, resisting tyranny no matter the odds. Trump has betrayed the fundamental values of our society and put us on the wrong side in what has to be the most morally unambiguous conflict since WW2. As someone who studies foreign policy and international relations for a living, my takes on wars almost invariably start with “it’s complicated” and I always try to avoid passing moral judgment on participants. That’s because almost all wars are genuinely messy and they are seldom good guys vs bad guys affairs. The Russo-Ukrainian War is as close as reality gets to the movies with one side grotesquely evil attempting to subjugate the other and the good guys defending their homes and freedom and defying the odds. History will not remember kindly Trump, his enablers, and the immoral assholes here who cheer them on.

A rough morning in Russia's St. Petersburg, as Ukraine has poured all manner of hell onto the unlucky city, targeting Russia's most important petroleum export terminal on the Baltic Sea, and the region's largest data center and an Ozon logistics facility. A massive data center owned by the company VK, St. Petersburg oil terminal and an Ozon logistics facility are all currently engulfed in the hellish flames of Karmic retribution. Additionally, the Vostochnaya electrical substation was targeted. Fires, power outages and internet disruptions have been reported across the region. Russian authorities claim to have intercepted 126 drones. Traffic at Pulkovo International Airport is shut down, while emergency crews have responded to additional fires in multiple districts.

Italy's Defense Minister Guido Crosetto: Russia attacked Ukraine, it attacked Crimea, Georgia, if we want to go further back, Afghanistan. So in the Russian mentality, there is the idea of attacking in order to occupy. Most of the Russian budget goes toward investments in weapons or the military. They will reach 1.5 million military personnel. So if the war ended tomorrow, what would Putin do with 1.5 million soldiers? He himself would face internal problems if he stopped the war tomorrow morning. And this gives me the impression, since he continues to accelerate, that he would not want to stop in Ukraine. This is Europe's concern, especially the concern of the Eastern European countries closest to Russia. And that is why, as Europe and NATO, we are preparing - @GuidoCrosetto

🚨 Ukraine has gathered clear proof that Starlink is being ordered to scupper Ukrainian operations. It is horrific betrayal. This is why all US technology needs to be replaced by European technology for critical European systems - UK included. ALL of it.
Latest: Zelenskyy tells reporters over WhatsApp that restrictions on Ukraine's Starlink systems remain. Interceptor drones can't function, logistics and operations hobbled. The maximum speed is 161 kph; "exceeding this limit causes the Starlink connection to cut out completely, resulting in the loss of the drone." He says Ukraine has done tests to determine whether SpaceX is truly facing technical issues, as has been told Kyiv by the US side, or if this is a "deliberate operation... to restrict us, cut us off, and prevent us from defending ourselves and protecting our people, both at the front and among the civilian population." He says Ukraine "sent a couple of vehicles equipped with Starlink terminals into European Union territory." "They moved at speeds exceeding 180kph, and the Starlink systems worked perfectly. We have the relevant logs and evidence to prove this." He adds: "The conclusion is clear: the restrictions are in effect within Ukraine but do not apply within the European Union. In other words, this is a planned operation."

Much punchier accusations from Sir Malcolm Rifkind - a former defence and foreign secretary: "I choose my words very carefully. I think this week Donald Trump has shown himself as a person to be repulsive; as a President of the United States to be a disgrace to his own people as well as to his international responsibilities. "We all know his actual reasons for this are a grubby attempt to win a few more votes in the midterms by trying to get oil prices down. "In order to achieve that, he has not only betrayed Ukraine in the middle of a war, fighting for its very existence, but he is also directly - not indirectly - directly responsible for the deaths of many Ukrainians who will not now be protected by the attempts that have been successfully made using intelligence provided indirectly by the United States." xitter.cf/breeallegretti/status/…

Here’s a recipe for political and economic success for every other European country: do whatever Denmark is doing. Easy mode.
Denmark is raising its retirement age to 70. French election candidates pledge to reducing it to 60 or 62. Denmark's debt to GDP ratio is 27%; France's is 117%. You reap what you sow. cnn.com/2025/05/23/business/…
