i want to say also that the original story from @heymooly is amazing work. it’s the reason why investing in local news is crucial. local reporters are there for every story — not just the ones national outlets deem worthy to drop someone in on.
it takes 2 seconds to hyperlink the story that prompted a national outlet to follow. seriously, wtf is up folks? credit where credit is due, it doesn’t take anything away from your resume. props to this reporter for being so gracious. CNN should return the favor.

Even a hyperlink goes a long way. Especially in a story that (rightfully) highlights the initial credulous media coverage… Would make sense to highlight that local reporting is also the reason that this all came to light!!

Hello @cnn, if you’re going to drop in and cover a local reporter’s story a few weeks later, the least you could do is cite their original reporting. And maybe rewrite your version a bit more. nebraskapublicmedia.org/en/n…

Convicted of rape in the 1990s and served prison time. Society missed a real opportunity to hold Mike Tyson accountable in the public square and I fear both the cannabis and psychedelic industries will pay the cultural price in the long-term.
Mike Tyson says he quit cocaine and alcohol for 5 years after smoking toad venom “I had the experience of smoking some of the toad venom that comes from the toad. You bust its little pimple and the puss comes out. We put it on a window or a mirror, it hardens up, we make fine ash out of it, like sawdust or whatever, and we smoke it” “Then we smoke it, and once you smoke it, let the smoke out. You hold it for as long as possible. You let it out, and then you go to another dimension. Then you realize all you did in life, you didn't do shit. This is the closest I ever been to God” “Oh shit, it'll blow your motherfucking mind. It will blow your mind for you to know how powerful you are. I did it around 60 times. It's always a different experience. It blows your mind what you saw” “I saw the ancient shit, like the Aztec, shit from Africa. I saw my ancestors during prehistoric times. It's really creepy. And then next thing you know, you wake up and you're crying or something” “If I ever saw somebody take it before I did, I would never take it. I was high. I was on cocaine. I was on cocaine when I took it. I was doing crazy shit. I took that, I ain't get high for five years. Didn't touch liquor or cocaine in five years. I was 100 pounds overweight. I got in shape to fight. That's what that did to me”

i was only at the @newsobserver for a year, but reporting on the mess in Cary was some of the most rigorous (and fun) reporting i’ve done in a while. i’m looking forward to reading my colleagues reporting on this.
