On Oct 18, 1860, French and British forces burned down the Summer Palace in Beijing after looting it. The fire burned for 3 days.
This is what the barbarians just burned down in France.

I increasingly think Huawei is the most important company in China’s AI push and maybe just the most important company in China full stop.
Ex-Huawei talent has helped seed a whole wave of Chinese physical AI startups. Of course, the causal effect runs the other way too: being ex-Huawei also gives you tons of cred for startup fundraising.

The fake stuff and AI slop is out of control these days- everyone is just hostage to it even media immersed professionals
I deleted a post showing an elderly couple robbed in their underwear in France as my friend @Zaptrapped told me it was fake. My apologies for not checking first, burning the town hall in Limoges was bad enough without spreading AI slop.

Skyrocketing diesel prices are hitting farmers hard, and the effects won’t stop at the farm gate. “We have to harvest, we have to run the machines, we have to use the diesel.” “The machine behind me uses 200 gallons a day. So we’ll harvest for about 30 days.” “So there’s 6,000 gallons.” And fuel is only one part of the equation.  Farmers are already facing rising costs for fertilizer, chemicals, and other inputs. The system leaves farmers with little control over the prices they pay or the prices they receive. They can absorb those increases for only so long before higher costs ripple through the food supply chain and hit consumers at the grocery store. Meanwhile, some of the largest corporations controlling essential parts of that system are reporting billions in profits during the same crises driving costs higher. Farmers and consumers shouldn’t keep getting squeezed while powerful corporations turn every new crisis into another opportunity to expand their margins.

"The land is reaching the point that farmers just can't afford it anymore." Outside money is pouring into farmland, and the next generation of farmers is getting priced out. Investors, developers, and data centers are outbidding many young families trying to get started. "These young people want to go home and farm or want to start a farm, and financially it's just not in the cards." When farmland becomes a Wall Street asset instead of a working farm, everyone who eats loses. The future of independent agriculture depends on keeping land in the hands of farmers. @whiteoakpasture @AcresUSA

BYD expects to start rolling out EVs out of Hungary factory in Q4 & decide on a 3rd plant in Europe soon. Likely France or Spain. I've always expected there to eventually be a factory in 1 of the 4 core EU countries. BYD has to hire displaced auto worker to probably secure its long term future in the continent.

This is one of the tragedies of the EU-China relationship: China really wants to invest in Europe, it even has a "super appetite" to do so 👇, and Europe would objectively largely stand to benefit, because 1) that'd reduce the trade deficit they keep complaining about and 2) that'd be doing what China itself did to catch up by welcoming Western firms. Yet it's not really happening at a meaningful scale for political and economic reasons. The political aspect is obvious, you just need to see what happened with Wingtech/Nexperia last year. A Chinese company bought Nexperia, the Dutch government cleared the deal, and 2 years later the same Dutch state literally confiscated it using, for the first time, an obscure Cold War-era emergency law. Or you just need to see the constant media hysteria in Europe over China (this example just 2 days ago being yet another sad illustration: xitter.cf/RnaudBertrand/status/2…). If you put yourself in China's shoes, you'd have to be crazy to sink billions into a continent where your acquisitions can be confiscated at any moment and every factory you build gets portrayed as part of an evil scheme by an "authoritarian dictatorship". And on top of that there are the economic challenges that Liang is mentioning here 👇: Chinese investments in Europe face the same economic issues as any European company, it's simply really hard to do business profitably in Europe (given energy costs, administrative overheads, etc.) All resulting in the rather Kafkaesque situation where Europe complains about being flooded with Chinese exports yet makes the solution for it - Chinese goods being produced in Europe instead, which China has a "super appetite" for - politically radioactive and economically unattractive.
China has “a super appetite to invest in Europe,” @lianglinlin2026 of the China Chamber of Commerce to the EU told us at the #POLITICOEuropeanResilience summit. But Chinese businesses need to assess whether these investments can be profitable, she added.
