I am a firm believer in telling people what they mean to you while they can still hear it and receive it. I'm glad I told you privately and here on X. You are my Shero, and I will always honor you. Maya Angelou said our legacy is measured by the lives we touch and influence, and sis EJ, your work and persona have influenced me. I am proudly a feminist because of women like you. I make my contributions to the women's movement and the Zimbabwean struggle because of fearless and unapologetic women like you. I celebrate your life and work. Thank you for everything. 💜

2/ Not everyday does a stranger you meet in a mag become family. Thanks, EJ for the big laughs, the pretty dresses for your niece, the lectures — and the Beres skanking. I bet, right now, you’re demanding a suitable hat. God forbid you show up at the Pearly Gates unprepared!

When those who lead lose touch with those they serve, they become the enemies of the very people they swore to advance. VAT is a regressive system by its very nature, which means the poorer you are, the harder it hits you. So I really struggle to understand how anyone who claims to be progressive and pro-poor can think it makes sense to penalise the most vulnerable (mostly their own constituency) just to fund civil salary increases. It makes no sense at all! Increasing VAT by 13% is cruel and completely out of touch. I’m beyond disappointed. Since 1994, not once have you considered increasing the corporate tax rate…not once🤷🏽‍♀️ Instead, it kept going down. Why not increase it back to 30%? because even if you do, companies still have tax deductions and other benefits. The poor have no such luxuries🤷🏽‍♀️ Considering that the apartheid government survived for a long time with a corporate tax rate of 50%, you can’t convince me that 30% is a lot.

Words cannot express the immense joy I feel regarding the last few days of WTC. In just 8 days, I had the privilege of walking 11 incredible women from diverse nations. There were 2 from South Africa, 3 from Botswana, 1 from Congo, 1 from South Sudan, 1 from Liberia, another from Senegal, one from Algeria, and finally, one from Trinidad and Tobago. (I have shared their inspiring stories on this platform.) We were together at a writing retreat, where each of these remarkable individuals is currently working on a writing project—some focused on long essays, while others are embarking on their first books. Each walk we took was unique. One of the women referred to WTC as "movement therapy," a term that resonated with me. As we walked, we found healing within our steps. We shared laughter, tears, and paused to admire the beauty of nature around us. We chased sunsets and sunrises, exchanging life affirming hugs along the way. I am truly grateful to have walked with each of these women—my sisters, fellow writers, and changemakers. #WalkTalkConnect @nangabe @Kuumbati @AfricanaWoman_ @HessiniLeila @Lethumusa_ @MalTutdeal @clay_ingel @nangabe
