Jetzt ist es also amtlich. Das Deutschlandticket wird zum 1. Januar 2027 zum 4. Mal hintereinander teurer.

This year's El Niño will dwarf the six other super El Niño events on record.
A projected +4.1°C rise in central Pacific Ocean temperatures by Dec. 2026 would leap past previous peaks of +2.8°C to +3.0°C in 1877, 1997 and 2015.
No one alive has witnessed an El Niño this strong.

I'm not sure folks have realized just how crazy the second half of 2026 and 2027 will be for global temperatures – on the back of a record-smashing El Niño event. Here is my latest estimate of where both years will end up compared to global temperatures since 1850.

If you fly to Europe on holiday, don't be surprised to have your trip ruined, and possibly your life threatened, by major wildfires
And don't forget, by flying, and pumping out tonnes of CO2, you will be contributing to the situation getting worse

This is what happens when you push the climate too far. It’s not every year in the same spot, the extreme locations change year to year, but ultimately there are more frequent and more intense extremes. Western Europe is ground zero for more extreme heat…. The research shows the climate warming impact on heatwaves is worse there. The persistent heat dries out vegetation and the result is this. These disasters will only increase and compound, causing more strain on an already stressed global system.

Ingwar

JUST IN: Atmospheric carbon dioxide (CO2) concentrations have peaked for the year at 430.5 ppm.📈
This is 3.6 ppm higher than last year and the second largest May-May increase in the 67-year Mauna Loa record. In 2023, the CO2 peaked at 424 ppm.

If you want to reduce the carbon footprint of your diet, less meat is nearly always better than sustainable meat.

ALT A graph comparing the greenhouse gas emissions of various protein-rich foods, measured in kilograms of carbon dioxide equivalents (kgCO2 eq) per 100 grams of protein. The chart features colorful curves representing different food items, with the height of each curve indicating the level of emissions associated with its production. The bottom line is that plant-based protein sources still have a lower footprint than the lowest-impact meat products.
