In his remarks at the ceremony, General Richard Clarke, former commander of USSOCOM, noted: ““Few missions have left as enduring a legacy as the mission we’re recognizing today...Put this in perspective: 18. Eighteen Silver Stars. Our nation’s third-highest award all being presented for one action, primarily from one company, over one 24-hour period.”

On this day in 1835, the first shots of the Texas Revolution were fired at Gonzales. Remembered as the “Lexington of Texas,” the battle was sparked when townspeople refused to return a cannon to Mexican troops. Under the banner “Come and Take It,” their stand marked the opening act of a rebellion that would end in the creation of the Republic of Texas. In honor of this day our ‘Come and Take It’ candle has been reduced to $25 for today only ⭐️

Barry was my best friend at ESPN. A big brother figure of rock solid values. I am shook to my core. Barry gave his life to hockey and some of his ESPN family, like me, learned of his shocking death today while at a hockey rink in Las Vegas preparing for the upcoming season. Chilling and fitting--the rink was Barry's home. A more beloved ESPN institution there has not been. We love you, Barry. Forever.
