It is with great sadness that I learn of the passing of Barrister Olusegun Awolowo with whom I worked during my time as finance Minister in 2011-2015 and then again at the WTO when I joined in 2021. During these times he was ED of the Nigerian Export Promotion Council and was very proud to be elected President Natl Trade Promotion Orgs of ECOWAS. My deepest condolences to his wonderful family. May his soul rest in perfect peace Amen!

At the “Made in Naija” Trade Exhibition hosted by Hon. Ahmed Munir, we were reminded of who we are as a nation creative, resilient, and unapologetically proud of our own. Earlier, a walk through the National Assembly Library and its historic archives showed a clear pattern: Nigeria has always moved forward when its people especially its women—lead, trade, and build. Today’s women in business continue that legacy, driving exports, shaping markets, and proving that the Nigerian spirit is built on innovation, courage, and possibility. “Made in Naija” is not just an exhibition. It’s our story—past, present, and rising.

Only a few Nigerians have had the rare privilege of standing at the intersection of our nation’s defining moments. Former President Muhammadu Buhari was one of them. From the battlefield to the ballot box, he fought for Nigeria’s stability with uncommon courage. When the nation called upon him to lead once more, he answered with grace, bearing the burden of our collective aspirations. President Buhari was one of a kind. He was defined not just by the asceticism of his lifestyle but by his documented refusal to compromise on his values. He served as a ladder for the political ascent of many. To generations of leaders, including myself, he remains the archetype of the principled politician: disciplined, deliberate, and difficult to distract from purpose. A man of the people, President Buhari’s life was a masterclass in servant leadership. He left office with the same modesty with which he entered it, committed to striking that difficult balance between proximity to the people and fidelity to national ideals. Nigeria has lost more than a leader. We have lost a compass. In this moment of national mourning, may we find solace in the legacy he left behind. It is a legacy that reminds us that honesty, simplicity, and integrity are not relics of the past but blueprints for a more honourable future. As one who came of age politically within the very structure shaped by his reputation and integrity, I must say this: I learnt much from him, and so did a generation of others. His life gave us a path, his values gave us a foundation, and his passing gives us a charge to carry forward the virtues that made him different. May Allah forgive his shortcomings, reward his service, and grant him Al-Jannah Firdaus. Ameen.

It is with profound sorrow and a heavy heart that I received the news of the passing of His Excellency, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (Rtd), GCFR, my predecessor, who departed this life today, Sunday, July 13, 2025, at a hospital in the United Kingdom. President Buhari was to the very core, a patriot, a soldier, a statesman. His legacy of service and sacrifice endures. He served Nigeria with unwavering dedication, first as a military leader from January 1984 to August 1985, and later as a democratically elected President from 2015 to 2023. Duty, honour, and a deep commitment to the unity and progress of our nation defined his life. He stood firm through the most turbulent times, leading with quiet strength, profound integrity, and an unshakable belief in Nigeria’s potential. He championed discipline in public service, confronted corruption head-on, and placed the country above personal interest at every turn. In this moment of national mourning, I extend my deepest condolences to his beloved wife, Aisha, with whom I have been in constant touch, his children, the entire Buhari family, and all who knew and loved him. I also extend my condolences to the government and people of Katsina State, most especially the people and traditional leaders of Daura Emirate. We honour his service. We reflect on his legacy. And we pray for the peaceful repose of his soul. As a mark of respect to our former leader, I have directed that all national flags fly at half-staff across the country for seven days from today. I have also summoned an emergency Federal Executive Council session on Tuesday, dedicated to his honour. The Federal Government will accord President Buhari full state honours befitting his towering contributions to our country. May Allah forgive his shortcomings and grant him Al-Jannah Firdaus. And may his life continue to inspire generations of Nigerians to serve with courage, conviction, and selflessness. Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR President, Federal Republic of Nigeria July 13, 2025

MUHAMMADU BUHARI: FAREWELL TO A PATRIOT AND PEOPLE’S PRESIDENT It is with profound sorrow and complete submission to the will of Almighty Allah, that we receive the news of the passing of one of Nigeria’s most revered sons — President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR. A towering figure in our national life: he was a soldier, statesman, reformer, and, above all, a beloved leader of the people. President Buhari lived with quiet dignity and unwavering commitment to the service of Nigeria. From his early days in the military to his presidency, he embodied discipline, integrity, and uncommon patriotism. His courage in confronting corruption and insisting on accountability in public life inspired millions. A man of Spartan simplicity and deep faith, he remained grounded in the values of justice and fairness, always aligning himself with the hopes and struggles of the ordinary Nigerian — the talakawa, whom he championed with conviction. Though a military General, he chose the difficult path of democratic reinvention. He believed deeply in the rule of law, due process, and the supremacy of the people’s will. He taught us that strength is not only measured in force, but in restraint; not only in command, but in character. Kaduna State mourns this great son of Nigeria. To us, he was more than a leader — he was a moral compass, a father figure, and a steady voice in times of uncertainty. His legacy will live on in the ideals he upheld, the institutions he strengthened, and the millions he inspired. On behalf of the government and people of Kaduna State, I extend our deepest condolences to His Excellency President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR; the Buhari family; the government and people of Katsina State; and indeed all Nigerians who now share in this moment of collective grief. We pray that Almighty Allah, in His infinite mercy, grants President Muhammadu Buhari eternal rest in Aljannatul Firdaus. May He also grant comfort and strength to the bereaved and to a nation now united in remembrance. Nigeria has lost a statesman. History has gained a legend. Senator Uba Sani, CON Governor, Kaduna State. July 13th, 2025

The passing of former President Muhammadu Buhari is a heavy blow - one that has shaken me deeply. I received the news with great shock and sadness. Baba Buhari was more than a former Head of State and ex-President. He was a symbol of discipline, modesty, and incorruptibility - a man whose life journey was etched in service to Nigeria. He lived simply, led with integrity, and served without greed. Whether as a soldier or a civilian president, he stayed true to his convictions. Even those who disagreed with him could not doubt his patriotism or his love for this nation. His bond with the North and his cult-like followership were not accidental - they were earned through years of sacrifice, consistency, and discipline. His role in forming the APC and bringing an end to PDP's 16-year dominance in 2015 was nothing short of historic. At 82, he had chosen quiet retirement. But Allah (SWT) has now called him to eternal rest. We are all mortals. We belong to Allah, and to Him we shall return. I pray that Allah forgives his shortcomings, accepts his good deeds, and grants him Aljannatul Firdaus. To his family, to the people of Daura and Katsina, to those in Kaduna who knew him closely - and indeed to all Nigerians - I extend my heartfelt condolences. May Nigeria never forget the legacy of Muhammadu Buhari. 🕊️🕊️🕊️ #RestInPeaceBuhari #BabaIsGone #NigeriaMourns #SpeakerAbbas

Two Years of Service. A Lifetime of Commitment. On Saturday in Zaria, I stood before the great people of my constituency, not just as Speaker of the House of Representatives, but as a grateful son of Zaria—humbled by the journey, and deeply thankful for the unwavering trust you’ve placed in me over the last 14 years. From a modest beginning as a teacher and bursary officer, to becoming Speaker of the 10th Assembly, every milestone has been made possible by Allah’s grace, your support, and the collaborative strength of purposeful leadership. Let me be clear: none of the progress we’ve made would have been possible without the visionary leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, and the steadfast partnership of our Governor, Senator Uba Sani. Their support remains the bedrock of the work we’ve been able to accomplish. Together, we have: Established new institutions in agriculture, veterinary science, and technical education. Invested over ₦5 billion in scholarships for over 10,000 students. Launched the ambitious ₦80 billion Education Village project. Renovated rural schools and improved teacher welfare. Empowered women and youth with vocational centres. Delivered community-driven projects across Zaria—from boreholes to maternity care and solar lights. Distributed over 58,000 bags of fertilizer and over 900 motorcycles to farmers and small business owners. Completed 23 road projects, with 18 more set to begin next year. We’ve also made history—sponsoring more bills than any legislator in Nigeria’s democratic era, with 21 presidential assents in the 9th Assembly alone. At our 2-year anniversary event, the people of Zaria joined Governor Sani and I in presenting a special Award of Excellence to President Tinubu—an expression of our collective gratitude for his unwavering support. As we look ahead, I make this solemn vow: I will continue to serve with even greater passion and purpose. With your support, and with the blessings of Almighty Allah, we will deepen prosperity, strengthen unity, and uplift every home in Zaria and beyond.

When we inaugurated the 10th House in June 2023, Nigeria stood at a critical crossroads - facing economic challenges, insecurity, and a crisis of public confidence. We knew that business-as-usual would not suffice. Today, I am proud to say: we rose to the moment. From day one, we committed to an ambitious Legislative Agenda - one that was not just visionary, but actionable. Crafted through broad consultations and aligned with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, our blueprint for reform and development is already delivering results. In just under two years, the 10th House has introduced an unprecedented number of bills and motions, many of which have already become law. More than numbers, these are instruments of real change - targeted at governance, security, economy, inclusion, and environmental sustainability. We have backed words with action: setting up monitoring mechanisms, integrating goals into committee workplans, and creating channels for feedback and transparency. And today’s Policy Dialogue on the Legislative Agenda in Abuja marks another bold step in fulfilling our promise to be a truly citizen-driven legislature. As we prepare for Open NASS Week and the midpoint of our term, I invite every Nigerian to engage with us - scrutinise our work, offer your views, and help shape the next chapter of our shared journey. Extraordinary times called for extraordinary responsibility. The 10th House has accepted that responsibility - and we’re just getting started.

Today, I had the honor of commissioning the remodelled, upgraded and fully equipped Dabo Mohammed Lere Memorial Hospital, Saminaka, Lere Local Government. We inherited a healthcare sector that was in a sorry state. We are therefore carrying out a surgical operation to deliver to our people a healthcare system that addresses the needs of the citizens in the three levels of healthcare delivery. Our vision is structured around five strategic objectives: enhancing health infrastructure, improving service delivery, strengthening human resources for health, ensuring the availability of essential medicines, and increasing sustainable health financing.

THE GOOD PEOPLE OF KADUNA STATE ARE THE WINNERS Today, the Court of Appeal affirmed the mandate freely given to me by the good people of Kaduna State. Our people graciously gave us their mandate based on our SUSTAIN Agenda. Since our assumption of office, we have been rebuilding trust, revitalizing rural economies through massive infrastructural development, addressing challenges of poverty, and empowering our youths and women. Our people - centered and inclusive administration has been working assiduously to build bridges of understanding among our people and frontally address the challenges of insecurity. Ours is therefore a government committed to the progress and development of Kaduna State. No area will be left behind. Everybody is a stakeholder in the Kaduna Project. The judgement by the Court of Appeal is therefore an opportunity for the citizens to re-commit themselves to the arduous task of revitalizing the state's economy and making our dear state a model of development in Nigeria. We urge all those who have exercised their constitutional right to appeal to join hands with us to chart a new course for Kaduna State. We urge everyone to see this affirmation as a victory for Kaduna State. This is a time for reflection, not celebration. Let us focus on the tasks ahead. Senator Uba Sani, Governor, Kaduna State. I congratulate President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR on the Supreme Court's affirmation of the mandate given to him by Nigerians. It is indeed a victory for democracy. The entire judicial process further confirms and solidifies the rule of law in our country. It is my sincere hope that the opponents, after exercising their constitutional rights to challenge the electoral victory up to the apex court in the land, will consider working with Mr. President to deliver his 'Renewed Hope Agenda', aimed at addressing the pressing socio-economic and security issues affecting Nigerians. Let me restate that the House, under my leadership (and the 10th National Assembly by extension) is willing to legislatively assist President Tinubu-led administration to make life easier, secure lives and property and create an enabling business environment in our dear country. The victory is not only for President Tinubu and the ruling party, the All Progressive Congress, but also for all Nigerians. The Judiciary remains the last hope of the common man, and the judgment by the Supreme Court has further strengthened legal jurisprudence in Nigeria.

Investing in water and sanitation is essential for eradicating poverty & building more equitable societies. It is a good investment: Every dollar invested in water & sanitation returns an estimated $4.30 in reduced healthcare costs. #EndPoverty wrld.bg/yT5l50PXcRc

STATEMENT BY THE GOVERNOR OF KADUNA STATE, HIS EXCELLENCY SENATOR UBA SANI ON THE 63RD INDEPENDENCE ANNIVERSARY OF NIGERIA, ON OCTOBER 1, 2023 It is with mixed feelings that I address the good people of Kaduna State on the occasion of our country's 63rd Independence Anniversary. At independence in 1960, our people had great expectations of a prosperous future. Our founding fathers envisioned a country that will become the Leading Black Nation on Earth. They committed to building a nation where no man or woman will feel oppressed. 63 years after, it is important for us to reflect on how far we have come as a nation. Have we met the expectations of our people? What challenges of nation building have we been grappling with? Is there a pathway to a greater future for our country? There is no doubt that we have made progress as a nation and as a people. In all facets, there are some success stories. That we have successfully defended the independence which we mark today is no mean achievement. We have also transited from military dictatorial rule to uninterrupted civil democratic rule for twenty three years. But we are not where we ought to be. We are yet to succeed in forging a truly Nigerian Spirit. Our ethnic and religious differences are still been exploited in furtherance of personal or collective interests. We are still struggling to address developmental challenges, especially in the areas of infrastructure, education, health, agriculture, and security. The increasing poverty level is a major source of worry for political leaders. Addressing the issue of poverty is critical to restoring the people's faith in our democracy. At the international level, how can we reinvent our foreign policy to put Nigeria back on the global map. As we celebrate, I call on Nigerian elites to work towards building consensus on where we want Nigeria to be in the scheme of world affairs. It is only by building a united and peaceful country that we can reenergize our economy and develop sustainably. A strong economy will give us the strategic muscle to negotiate our way to prominence on the global scene. We must also frontally address our challenges of insecurity. When we effectively address our internal security challenges, we can then resume peacekeeping and enforcement roles in West Africa and Africa. Let us therefore come together and support our security agencies in the fight against terrorism, banditry, kidnapping, armed robbery and other forms of criminality. Here in Kaduna State, our administration is fully committed to securing the state, and rebuilding trust in our communities by ensuring justice, equity and fair play. We have also resolved to bring succour to the poor. This is why I constituted the Financial Inclusion and Literacy Committee to ensure that the poor, vulnerable and underserved in the rural areas benefit from state and federal governments social intervention programmes. Rural Transformation is a cardinal focus of our administration. We want to revitalize the rural economies through massive infrastructural development. We want every citizen of the state to feel the impact of the government. No part of the state will be left behind. We want to return Kaduna State to its original place as the melting pot of Nigerian nationalities. We seek the support and cooperation of our citizens to build the Kaduna State of our dreams. Happy 63rd Independence Anniversary Senator Uba Sani, Governor, Kaduna State. October 1st, 2023.
