Systems, once they exist, tend to become immune to change, no matter how good the people are. People come and go, but the system remains.

My wife just said "if you hate everyone, you should eat something, and if you think everyone hates you, you should go to sleep" and I don't think I've heard a better life hack

I care more about shipping APIs than how I have to *talk* to make it happen. 🤷🏼‍♀️ Takeaway: don’t tell women to ask for the raise, speak like a man, or other things that work for you. Women are rational, if we’re doing something weird, fix the system, not us.

Many “best practices” were created for a world that no longer exists. In the face of change, the routines that once moved you forward often become the ruts that hold you back. No practice is ever perfect. The day you stop being open to improving is the day you start stagnating.

lol do you remember when people used local mail clients like thunderbird, with client side filters, and your mail would get delivered to entirely different places depending on which app you chose to open first in the morning, web or client? that shit was hilarious.. that is all. – at San Francisco, CA

Establishing a healthy relationship with your inner imposter means acknowledging what it's telling you without letting it call the shots. Agility isn't about stifling thoughts of doubt. It's about acknowledging these thoughts and choosing to move forward with courage.

A "QA role inside the team" is a waterfall silo. It’s a dependency that slows your delivery speed. You are just doing a mini waterfall (with a QA phase) within the team. Quality should be pervasive. Quality is everybody’s concern.

"We've always done it that way" is not a valid reason for anything. Don't follow traditions because the status quo is comfortable and change makes you uncomfortable. Question whether past routines are serving you well in the present and guiding you toward a better future.

Wow! Coming on 25 years of software development. I can honestly say that the most valuable skill that I've developed over all those years isn't technical coding, but being able to figure out what is important and what's not.

Public service announcement: You can’t refute evidence with opinions. When you disagree with data, you have 3 options: 1. Find better data 2. Identify limitations of the existing data 3. Consider the possibility that you were wrong, and have the humility & integrity to admit it
