The indigenous people of British Columbia do NOT need to be conquered. Their subjugation by the British Crown was completed over 150 years ago.
Just ask the Chilcotin war chiefs who massacred a road crew in 1864 believing it to be an act of war. Governor Frederick Seymour marshalled 100 men, tracked them down, took them as prisoners, had them tried, convicted, and then hanged for murder under British law.
Or ask the 200 Cowichan tribesmen who in 1853 grabbed their arrows and rowed out in war canoes in defiance of a colonial order to relinquish a man accused of murder. Governor James Douglas gathered 150 men on two warships and sailed under commission of the Crown into their village. It only took two hours. The man was handed over without a shot fired.
Ask the Penelakut who, the following year, made the mistake of firing upon and killing a sailor aboard another Douglas gunboat arriving to arrest men accused of murdering two settlers. The village was shelled for 30 minutes and then burned. Within weeks, the culprits were apprehended, tried, convicted, and executed for the murders.
There was never any need or desire among the colonial authorities to enter treaties after these skirmishes because the sovereignty of the Crown was abundantly clear.
The few treaties on southern Vancouver Island that Douglas did enter early in his tenure were not offered out of necessity, but practicality. Sometimes you settle not because you accept the legitimacy of another party’s claim, but to avoid unnecessary conflict.
What you did not see during the founding of British Columbia, however, was colonial malice or revenge. Slavery, torture, and retributive cycles of violence which had prevailed on the land since time immemorial quite suddenly came to an end.
Crown justice was buttressed by the Mercy of the Cross. In 1872, Judge Matthew Begbie, who had sentenced the Chilcotin Chiefs eight years earlier, commuted the death sentences of four Metlakatla men, including the Chief, convicted for murder. They were returned to their village and trusted into the care of Anglican priest William Duncan. Begbie wrote: “When the head is white, the heart ought to be prudent and moderate.” Duncan reported in the years following that the men had become happy and docile under his instruction.
When gold miners surged northward from San Francisco, colonial protection was provided. When smallpox broke out in 1862, thousands were vaccinated. These too were gracious acts of sovereign power.
The natives are restless in British Columbia today. We don’t need to reconquer them. We don’t necessarily need treaties either. What we do need is to restore the peace, order, and good governance that colonial authorities established long ago through the sovereign exercise of the will of the Crown tempered by the wisdom and grace of the Cross.

China's efforts to forge links with B.C. Indigenous groups is a crucial development to watch.
"Canadian national security officials have previously warned of Indigenous issues functioning as an easy avenue for Chinese political and economic influence."

I noticed a version of this myself last year when interviewing Taiwan's ambassador in Vancouver. Minutes before we talked he had had an extensive meeting with Haida leaders, who are increasingly controlling more lands.

.@MarkJCarney talking about increasing immigration at a time when our asylum programs continue to run amok and are full of rampant fraud
Make the obvious fixes first. Restore integrity of the system. Get a credible plan in place to clean up the mess from the last govt

Picture, for a moment, that the Canadian High Commissioner to St. Kitts and Nevis goes on record as saying that Canadians should be flooded into the Caribbean nation so quickly that they'll comprise one third of the population by 2036.
The Indian High Commissioner to Canada says Carney’s Canada will need 15-million new international immigrants in next decade to meet the job growth. But will Canadians be asked for their opinion if they want the population to potentially double? torontosun.com/news/national…

One Big Question: How Did MASSIVE Levels Of Immigration 2022 - 2025 Help Average Canadians?
Or did massive levels of Immigration actually FUCK- OVER average Canadians?
Clearly the Fuck-Over because the Government was forced to HALT Immigration
Why thnk about increasing?

With Canada’s population growth at a historic low of 0.5 per cent, Mark Carney is in a position to proactively lead the debate on restarting immigration, Adam Radwanski writes. thestar.com/business/mark-ca…

This is why I'm concerned about 2027.
@MarketManiaCa nails it.
Parents are financially supporting their adult children. Buyers are disappearing. Homes are sitting unsold. Losses are mounting.
Now imagine what happens if unemployment rises and more households fall behind on their mortgages.
People think we've seen the worst.
I'm not convinced we have.
My prediction for 2027:
Mortgage delinquencies will become one of the biggest stories in Canadian real estate.
It won’t stop at mortgages. Consumer debt stress will start showing up everywhere.
The numbers we’re seeing today are only the warning signs.
People have no idea what’s coming. The storm hasn’t arrived yet.

In the 33 years since the Conservative Mulroney government, which granted unrestricted abortion access to women, Tories have formed three federal governments that governed Canada for a decade. They have also formed over forty provincial governments that have held power in eight of the ten provinces.
And not one single Tory government in the 37 years since Brian Mulroney announced he would not enact any legislation to restrict abortion access, no Conservative government has passed a single piece of legislation to restrict abortion access, despite literally dozens of opportunities.
But because progressives would prefer to fight American elections they have made the threat that Conservatives will ban abortion the centrepiece of their provincial and federal campaign messaging for the past thirty years.
But I see you're innovating now because you also warn that if the Tories take power, we will stop sterilizing, lobotomizing and mutilating troubled children. What a horror that would be!
We will have a civil conversation behind closed doors to restrict abortion and allow for conversion therapy in our schools. It will be respectful in our caucus room. And when we unveil our plan- we will ask people to be respectful of the rights we will take away.

I sat my 7-year-old down and explained to him that dying industries (legacy media, academia, DNC politics) ride algorithmically driven cultural hysterias both because it’s the only way they can stay relevant and because their business models demand it.
He looked up at me and with a tear in his eyes asked, ‘so, for the sake of the journos, the assistant professors, and Dem Politics Inc, we’re obligated to attest to the moral urgency of the hysteria and act completely emotionally dysregulated?’
‘Yes,’ I answered him. ‘Yes, that’s right.’
And then we both sat quietly.

"past comments about LGBTQ people" is misleading. She said that material depicting explicit gay sex was not appropriate for school age children. This right here is a reason homophobia is rising: activists saying that if you oppose explicit sexual material or gender ideology in school, you oppose the gay community.

🇨🇦 IRCC confirmed they cannot locate 2 million expired visa holders.
CBSA says they don’t have resources to find them.
Canada’s immigration minister called it under control.
2 million people. Untracked. In a country of 40 million.
That’s not a resource problem.
That’s a system that was never designed to enforce its own rules.👇

I'll never forgive the B.C. school system for teaching me the fine details of the English Civil War while completely overlooking the absolutely bananas Haida/Salish conflicts that happened in our own backyard.
The Haida you say?
For those who survived the diseases and lived into old age, the world around them had been utterly transformed.
The elderly Protestant convert living somewhere along the coast in the 1880s, who still kept a domestic slave despite the missionaries' entreaties, had once taken heads and marauded across the West Coast without fear, before the British gunboats arrived.
A shame that we erase much of this warrior culture for the boilerplate nature lover cliche encouraged by the academy.

They weren’t “preliminary investigations”
It was a fake story based on a misunderstanding of how ground penetrating radar works.
Every time you credulously name-check that debunked claim from 2021, you lose credibility for whatever new information you’re bringing forward today
As a toddler, Denise Boucher was taken to St. Joseph’s residential school in Fort Resolution. When her grandparents tried to bring her home, the church refused. The last time her family saw her, nuns were dragging her inside as the door slammed. thewalrus.ca/she-died-in-a-r…

What’s disgusting was Trudeau & Marc Miller hyping the lie that 215 tiny corpses had been unearthed in Kamloops, so they could play white saviour during an election year, & take bended-knee selfies. Criminalizing criticism of that social panic, which you’re advocating, is insane

Indigenous peoples do not need to prove our trauma to people. No one is entitled to demand access to our grief, our stories, or our dead as a condition of believing us. The demand to see the bodies of children before acknowledging their deaths is utterly disgusting.

My column today is on the Charter right to sell hard drugs. I argue that Justice Catherine Murray should be removed from the bench.
She embraced far-fetched ideas about drug use to undermine a widely accepted prohibition on *drug dealing* and even applauded the dealers who stood before her in court. A person who praises unlawful, objectively harmful behaviour because she agrees with the activism behind it cannot be trusted to preside over a court.
