EEI PGR conference was yesterday. I presented this poster describing our phased M. javanica assembly, including synteny and ploidy findings, told through a circos plot. Our preprint is here for those interested: tinyurl.com/mr3hppej

The first paper of my PhD has been published in PLOS ONE! This work had some steep learning curves and I’m thrilled that it’s finally finished and out in the world. I’d like to wish a huge thank you to everyone who helped support me through this process.

ONT finally getting there for highly contiguous, highly accurate genome assembly from a single tech.

Dug up some bones in the garden and I’ve tried to recreate what sort of animal they might have been from. Looks like some sort of snake most probably.
Very cool talk discussing the need and opportunities for high performance computing in microbial metagenomics by
@Mer_Freiheit at the @HULL_HPC_VIPER symposium. Great to see implementation with Snakemake and conda!
Interesting talk about scRNA analysis from Eamon Faulkner at the @HULL_HPC_VIPER symposium. Very clean talk.

Before Docker: "It works on my system" 🤷♂️
After Docker: "It works on my container" 🤷
This is misleading. Browsing StackOverflow doesnt always give 100% correct solutions straight away either. You usually find something that is "almost" right, and then adapt it to fit your own work. The LLM approach is similar, but much faster. 1/3
It's a streamlined approach tapping into the same knowledge base, but with increased efficiency. One day they'll be able to write perfect code from simple prompts, but imo they're still better than manually browsing StackOverflow in most cases. 3/3

Very happy to see this one finally out! The second (and last) chapter of my masters project where we looked at the influence of methodological and environmental components on the #eDNA detection of #amphibians in temporary ponds in South Portugal 🐸🧬

Learning about @mrmrwinter from @EvoHull work. His work is really important for food security as the root nematodes he is learning about are very destructive and greatly decrease agricultural yield affecting all flowering plants.
