We are fundraising for our friend and colleague Prof @JosephDaher19 , fired by the Uni Lausanne for his Palestinian activism. He is deprived of his income, and challenging the decision through the courts is costing 10s of thousands. Please help!

Calling this now: Trump is going to withhold federal funds from blue states after climate disasters.
He is going to use the government to punish Americans who didn't vote for him.

"Hamdan was clearly targeted for making No Other Land (he recalled soldiers joking about the Oscar as they tortured him), he was also targeted for being Palestinian ... This ... gave the Academy an excuse to remain silent when a filmmaker they honored ... needed them the most."
Sadly, the US Academy, which awarded us an Oscar three weeks ago, declined to publicly support Hamdan Ballal while he was beaten and tortured by Israeli soldiers and settlers.
The European Academy voiced support, as did countless other award groups and festivals. Several US Academy members—especially in the documentary branch—pushed for a statement, but it was ultimately refused. We were told that because other Palestinians were beaten up in the settler attack, it could be considered unrelated to the film, so they felt no need to respond.
In other words, while Hamdan was clearly targeted for making No Other Land (he recalled soldiers joking about the Oscar as they tortured him), he was also targeted for being Palestinian—like countless others every day who are disregarded. This, it seems, gave the Academy an excuse to remain silent when a filmmaker they honored, living under Israeli occupation, needed them the most.
It’s not too late to change this stance. Even now, issuing a statement condemning the attack on Hamdan and the Masafer Yatta community would send a meaningful message and serve as a deterrent for the future.

What this is obscuring is that the really rich get income not only from their work, but also from assets, property, shares, & they DONT pay progressive tax on that - they pay much less.
The average worker pays proportionately more tax than the super rich cos of this #TaxTheRich
‘Tax the Rich’ - people like Gary Stevenson banging this drum
Well did you know that a £150k earner pays £53,460 in income tax, but…
A £25k earner pays just £2,486
How’s it fair to tax the rich more, when they are ALREADY taxed (a LOT more)
And WHY are we forcing all these millionaires out of the U.K?
The solution is to STOP wasting the taxpayer money the govt. already gets!
And it takes 21 £25k earners to generate the same tax revenue as ONE £150k earner
Stop hating & jumping on the bandwagon of ‘Tax the Rich’ & start holding the govt. to account on how they spend (waste) taxpayer money

The plastic industry is an offshoot of fossil fuel.
Imagine breathing micro-plastic.
Sounds good?
“The result that surprised me most was the widespread microplastic contamination in all species that we sampled, regardless of body size, habitat preference & feeding habits.”
#Microplastics were found in all species studied, with ave 416 particles/gram of lung tissue.

This young man had more dignity and integrity in his short career than the thousands of comfortable Western journalists who have remained silent as their governments have armed and funded a genocide.
This is Hossam’s team, and we are sharing his final message :
“If you’re reading this, it means I have been killed—most likely targeted—by the Israeli occupation forces. When this all began, I was only 21 years old—a college student with dreams like anyone else. For past 18 months, I have dedicated every moment of my life to my people. I documented the horrors in northern Gaza minute by minute, determined to show the world the truth they tried to bury. I slept on pavements, in schools, in tents—anywhere I could. Each day was a battle for survival. I endured hunger for months, yet I never left my people’s side.
By God, I fulfilled my duty as a journalist. I risked everything to report the truth, and now, I am finally at rest—something I haven’t known in the past 18 months . I did all this because I believe in the Palestinian cause. I believe this land is ours, and it has been the highest honor of my life to die defending it and serving its people.
I ask you now: do not stop speaking about Gaza. Do not let the world look away. Keep fighting, keep telling our stories—until Palestine is free.”
— For the last time, Hossam Shabat, from northern Gaza.

No Other Land depicts the horrifying violence Palestinians in the West Bank endure under apartheid.
Yesterday, its co-director Hamdan Ballal was beaten in his home by settlers before being detained by Israeli forces.
People applauded Hamdan. Now they are silent. Free Hamdan.

The government's pesticide reduction plan is out. Reduction target of 10% by 2030. BUT
- Only focuses on arable farming, not use of pesticide in urban areas
- EU target is 50% by 2030 so is another divergence from enviro standards

If Hamas had killed 7 Israelis inside of Israel this week, it would be one of the biggest stories in the world, & all over the US media.
But Israel killed 7 HUNDRED Palestinians this week, including almost 200 children, & yet there's little outrage from our politicians or media.

We should talk more about how the dominant approach of capitalist economists to controlling inflation is to periodically throw hundreds of thousands of people out of work and into misery. This is what passes for "economic stability" and it is madness.
