Vulkan video decode, Wayland fractional scaling, vo_kitty, ARIB caption support, and much more
If you want to try out some hot experimental features, the git version of mpv + libplacebo + ffmpeg now support Vulkan-based hardware video decoding.
Drivers are still a shitshow though, stick to the regular hardware decode (vaapi, etc.) for daily use.

We decided to wait and see, and we've waited and seen quite enough. It's official: the mpv project has moved its IRC channels to @liberachat!
A quick word of warning: neither Debian nor (by extension) Ubuntu have patched CVE-2021-30145 in the mpv packages they ship, despite Debian having been informed of it through their own channels.
@ubuntu 21.04 also shipped with mpv 0.32 instead of 0.33. 0.33 is 6 months old.

Please stop posting on the issue tracker about the RIAA's latest war on sanity. We are aware of it. The issue tracker is not a forum. No, your weird tangent about nuclear weapons has no relevance to the discussion. Thanks.
We have just heard about this FOSDEM presentation about mpv being used at @museumnaturalis, if you're visiting FOSDEM you might want to check it out!

mpv now has support for gopher. Mostly because inexplicably, lavf added support for gopher.
Get on our level, @videolan.
As for mpv, work on the long-awaited 0.30 is progressing slowly but steadily. A lot of macOS specific changes (e.g. Swift 5) have just been merged.
Other things that made it in recently is vaapi interop for @VulkanAPI and error diffusion for dithering.
Oh no, the security circus is busy crashing multimedia tracs with FUD again. Stay strong @videolan 🙏❤️
