First post in a while and this one is about how a debate about the role of BBC story editors in 1965 encouraged a disgruntled writer to write in to Huw Wheldon to illustrate it. ⬇️

Famously the butt of more than one Alan Partridge Joke.. my guest today on the Peter Purves Podcast is Sue Cook. One of the biggest names on BBC TV during the 70's, '80's , and 90's, she was a principle presenter on Breakfast Time, Nationwide, and Crimewatch,

I do seem to have "form" doing those replica newspaper and magazine covers even if they usually barely trouble the scorers...
Anyway, this SHOREDITCH ADVERTISER joke pretty much ran its course in Feb 2023.

Never mind the weather, here's what might have happened in The Escape of R.D.7 back in 1961. No camera script survives but a rehearsal script does with significant changes to the plot & featuring characters who never appear!

Up now on the stack of subs, part 2 of lost BBC serial The Escape of R.D.7. Dr Anna Hastings has 'kidnapped' a young lab technician who has been infected with a virus she has been working on to kill rats. But will it kill him? And can he trust her motives? michaelseely.substack.com/p/…

Today I pay my respects to John Nolan who passed away a few weeks back. It gives me an excuse to view the final episode of S2 of DOOMWATCH "Public Enemy" which also has Trevor Bannister. For so many years, I only knew Mr. Bannister from ARE YOU BEING SERVED? and when I really started getting into British television, I was able to see the breathe of work and variety of role he played. Radio Times coverage attached. #Doomwatch #BBC #GerryDavis #KitPedler #JohnNolanRIP
