The separation referendum ballot question was significant, obviously, but the battle over these issues will be fierce, divisive, and could set up another round of secessionist struggle in the years to come.
What comes next is not going to be pleasant.
Wild that Albertans voted to support all but one of the other nine referendum questions. They only rejected the Q on AB rejecting Fed Programs but taking the money anyway. It’s as if Albertans collectively said “I trust the UCP to fuck over immigrants, but NOT to not fuck me.”

So all those checks and balances they taught us about in school were just bullshıt?
Actually cannot believe what I've read here.
The police shooting that killed 1-year-old Kohen Wiley as he sat in his mother’s lap in a Walmart parking lot in Senatobia in June “was justified,” Mississippi Attorney General Lynn Fitch’s office says.

This would be a good moment for Democrats to say something like "we won't let this happen."
The Trump admin is moving forward on plans to impose financial penalties on Americans in default on their federal student loans and hire private debt collectors to go after them.
The plans are unlikely to be announced until after the midterms. washingtonsun.com/economy/tr…

Most people don't understand what will happen if their loans get garnished. It's bad. They allow you keep a small amount and they take everything else until the balance is paid..... I've seen it firsthand when I did payroll. This will destroy families.

A brief review of recent technical “errors” at Meta:
1. Restricting the Facebook pages of Brazilian president Lula who is in a runoff election against a Trump-favored candidate
2. Shutting down the pages of Albanians protesting Jared Kushner’s plans to build a luxury resort in the country
3. Rejecting ads for a documentary critical of Elon Musk
4. Shutting down the No Kings instagram page in the middle of a major anti-Trump protest

Netflix wants to lead culture, but its obsession w/ data means waiting for audiences to validate show before committing to more. Then we get 18 months between seasons.
Sorry. Can't lead culture by waiting for it to tell you where to go.

One thing about Biden era inflation was that it also drove record wage growth. Maybe that wasn't worth it but it definitely seems better than prices going up across the board and wages freezes or decreases.

This past Valentine’s Day, 71-year-old Brad Reese, proud grandson of Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups inventor H. B. Reese, posted a scathing open letter to the manager of corporate brand and editorial at Hershey, accusing the company of unforgivably altering many Reese’s products by replacing real chocolate with compound chocolate — basically using vegetable oils instead of cocoa butter to lower costs and replacing real peanut butter with “peanut-butter-style crèmes.”
“And Reese wasn’t alone in feeling like everything was getting worse,” writes Rachel Handler. “Everyone in my life I spoke to agreed that something was amiss, that Reese’s — and commercial chocolate in general — didn’t taste the way it used to.”
Handler would spend the next several months tumbling down a chocolate vortex, encountering dozens of eccentric characters, all disagreeing about the fundamental question of what chocolate even is and who it should be for.
“I learned that — not to sound like a LinkedIn guy — what’s going on with chocolate is a parable for the modern world. That at this particularly bleak end stage of capitalism, everything we once treasured has or will lose its essential essence and MrBeast will always be involved somehow.”
For our cover story, Handler takes a deep dive into the molten belly of the chocolate world. Read it in full: nymag.visitlink.me/vKKky_
