Awesome talk by Abigail Pratt on cirrate distribution and their egg-coral associations. Good to see another cirrate lover presenting at @ciac2022! #ciac2022 #cephalopods #cirrata – at Sesimbra, Portugal
Always a pleasure to attend CIAC meetings and such a privilege to present my research alongside such amazing researchers #ciac2022 – at Sesimbra, Portugal
Starting the day with these superstars talking about Cephalopod Genetics and Evolution! Morag Taite, Brooke Whitelaw, Sally Lau and Oleg Simakov thank you! 🦑🐙🧬

We studied the evolution of bobtail and bottletail squid, with samples from different world' oceans. A great collaboration with @cefafalopodo @DrShmoo @moragtaite @Ferdix and others absent here. (6/1)
Delighted to have such helpful lab members who are as excited about my specimens as me!! – at Aberystwyth, Wales
Replying to @cefafalopodo
Until now, I only had the chance to examine a defrozen Octopoteuthis callipso (thanks @MartaAlboP). Thanks to @moragtaite today I've briefly measured 11 specimens of 5 species. This is how they look like on museum jars (some of them collected decades ago).

🚨Out now🚨 In situ recordings of large gelatinous spheres from NE Atlantic, and the first genetic confirmation of egg mass of Illex coindetii (Vérany, 1839) (Cephalopoda, Mollusca)

ALT Several examples of large gelatinous spheres, over a metre across, that have been found floating in the sea at various locations around the North East Atlantic. The spheres are mostly translucent except for a dark vein which runs through the centre. Some of these spheres have been shown, through genetics, to be the egg masses of the broadtail shortfin squid Illex coindetii. The spheres may contain thousands of embryos and it is believed to function as a form of protection for the developing eggs. The dark vein is possibly squid ink left behind when the eggs were fertilized.

Today it was released at @ICMCSIC website this article about 343 cephalopods specimens Roger Villanueva and I prepared for the Biological Reference Collection. You can read it in Spanish, English and Catalan. @icm_young
📢Este año el ICM ha incorporado más de 300 nuevos ejemplares de cefalópodos🐙en sus Colecciones Biológicas de Referencia, algunos de gran valor para los científicos, ya que son muy difíciles de muestrear.
