The siphuncle of the ram’s horn squid does more than regulate buoyancy; it also expresses genes involved in biomineralization, shell maintenance, and matrix remodeling, which may explain the persistence of this species and its shell, reminiscent of extinct ancestors. /7

New research published today in @ScienceMagazine has used 🐙octopus DNA🧬to discover that the West Antarctic Ice Sheet likely collapsed during the Last Interglacial period - when global temperatures were similar to today.
