One interesting development that sits on top of all this is the mainstreaming of fandom and fanfic. AO3 is the 56th most visited site website IN THE WORLD and is in the top 30-40 in the US depending on the month. Semrush estimates that AO3 gets more monthly visitors than eBay or ESPN or the NYT with users spending more than 20 minutes per visit. Those are astonishing metrics, but has also opened a door that not everyone wants ajar which is partially what this story is about.
On October 29th, AO3 unexpectedly went down. It’s still offline, and may be that way for several more weeks as they investigate a security breach. The site’s downtime has created a lot of panic and stress, but it’s also winched open a rift between fan fiction writers and readers, all made worse by the state of modern publishing, AI, and the feeling that art and media are just grist for the scroll. I reported it all out for @CNN and found out a lot about the current state of fan fiction in the process. Huge thanks to @momovolution2 for being my guide here, and for all the authors who talked to me about what’s going on and how they feel about it. cnn.com/2026/11/07/entertain…

As someone who listened to all his podcasts and read both his books, as soon as the allegations came out I believed them because they were completely in line with what he told the world about how he behaved.
Two women testified that Russell Brand had dragged or attempted to drag them into toilets. Here he is joking about dragging women into toilet cubicles.

Y'all will never make me believe S6 is good. I don't even believe it's y'all favorite. I believe y'all just say that to come off intellectual and deep. I don't give a damn how much depression Y'all got, ain't no damn way in hell that justifies it being a good season

They genuinely do not understand how; A) women can want casual sex and enjoy it B) women can also be raped and abused in casual sexual encounters Are not contradictory statements. Why? Because for them, a woman consenting to sex cannot withdraw it. Her moral failing was wanting sex. To them, that means any force or negated consent after the fact is irrelevant. It’s a fair punishment for the “sin” of enjoying and consenting to sex as a woman.

Do you think young women who had consensual sex in his dressing room were helpless victims or empowered and sexually liberated?

Does anyone else find the way Chappell sings about women to be very male brained? Obsessing over sex instead of actual wlw love...

This is basically what Windy City Heat did, right?
Scandal erupts in Denmark over TV show that brutally pranked comedian for four months Danish comedian Rasmus Wallbridge believed he was working with his friend Martin Larsen on a film adaptation of their long-standing idea — a comedy in the style of Scary Movie. In reality, the film project was an elaborate setup by broadcaster TV 2: 149 people, including Larsen, played out a staged scenario in front of Rasmus while hidden cameras captured everything. The footage was turned into a six-part series called Everybody Loves Rasmus. The comedian only discovered the truth at the end of filming. He initially took the prank calmly and agreed to the show being broadcast. However, after the first episode aired on October 26, the programme triggered a wave of criticism. Viewers, comedians and TV presenters described what happened as bullying and psychological abuse. One presenter called it “psychological torture”. On October 31, Wallbridge said he was not ready to take part in the discussion and asked the broadcaster not to use such methods again. That same day, TV 2 removed the show from all platforms and apologised to the comedian. Denmark’s Culture Minister also weighed in on the scandal, describing the programme as a “tasteless psychological experiment” and accusing the broadcaster of violating its own ethical standards.

some of y’all have mistaken your particular corner of fandom for fandom itself fanfic and fanart are NOT the only way to experience fandom their popularity on your TL doesn’t make them the backbone of the fandom community
