My wife got me that Globex pin as an early birthday gift. This one showed up today.
On May 7, 1992, Gorbachev walked the CME floor with chairman Jack Sandner and they made him an honorary member. He joked he might collapse the place. This original pin is the handout from that morning.

My wife found this for my birthday. An original pin they were handing out on the CME floor during the day June 25, 1992, ahead of Globex going live that evening.
That first overnight did 1,893 contracts. Almost all Yen and Deutsche Marks. Now CME does around 30 million a day and trillions in notional.
She knew what it would mean.

Took the family outside to see the harvest moon.
Then the neighbors lit up the sky like they’d been waiting for us.
Unexpected fireworks under a full moon. Pretty hard to beat.

Pearl Jam’s Ten dropped 35 years ago today.
What’s wild is this whole stack landed inside two months in 1991:
Metallica – The Black Album: Aug 12
Pearl Jam – Ten: Aug 27
Guns N’ Roses – Use Your Illusion I & II: Sept 17
Red Hot Chili Peppers – Blood Sugar Sex Magik: Sept 24
Nirvana – Nevermind: Sept 24
Soundgarden – Badmotorfinger: Oct 8
What a year.
A few decades ago my wife and I got married and one week later we packed a U-Haul and drove from Houston to Chicago so I could take a position on a metals trading desk.
They also offered her a role supporting the head of the Introducing Broker division at the same clearing FCM.
She got to see the real numbers up close. Everyone quotes the same line: only 2-5% of traders are consistently profitable. What she watched day after day was closer to a fraction of 1%. That number never left either of us.
We got back from an amazing family stay at this cabin up in Broken Bow Oklahoma a week ago. The place was near perfect. Tucked in the pines up in the hills with a beautiful clear stream running right on the property. The kids had a blast exploring and it was exactly the reset we all needed.
It had four king master suites for the adults, a dual queen bunk room for the little ones, a massive 1,300 sq ft deck with TVs, spa and plenty of seating. Plus an awesome game room with ping pong and more. Everyone loved it so much we’re already plotting our next trip.

Our room for the coming days in Houston. I don’t even know what to say about this. This is just unreal. No words.
Huge huge thank you to JJ Watt for giving me and my friends the opportunity to stay at a place like this🙏🙏🙏

Dear @WhiteHouse, my name is Rodney Smith Jr., founder of Raising Men & Women Lawn Care Service in Huntsville, Alabama. Through our 50 Yard Challenge, over 6,000 kids across the country have signed up to mow free lawns for the elderly, disabled, veterans, active-duty military, first responders, and single parents. With America celebrating its 250th birthday this year and me also being born on July 4th, I wanted to humbly ask if a few kids from our program and myself could travel to Washington, D.C. to help mow the White House lawn for this historic celebration.
More than anything, I want these kids to see how a simple act of service something as ordinary as mowing a lawn for someone in need can lead to extraordinary places. What better lesson in community service than showing them that helping others can take them all the way to our nation’s capital? I’d also love to bring my American flag-themed mower in hopes that the President might sign it, so I can later auction it off and donate 100% of the proceeds to a nonprofit supporting veterans. It would be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to highlight the importance of service, patriotism, and the impact young people can have when they choose to make a difference. 🇺🇸
Four years ago today I lost my brother Zack Allen. 💔
Zack was a Las Vegas firefighter and medic who ran toward the hardest days so the rest of us didn’t have to. He was the kind of guy who gave everything - his time, his strength, his heart - without ever keeping score. Selfless doesn’t even begin to cover it.
He was 10 years younger than me but that never stopped him from teaching this old man how to spar in the ring, how to throw a punch and more importantly… how to take one. I’ll never forget the laughs, the music, the bruises and especially the time I took him for his first straight razor shave.
He had this incredible way of making even the toughest days lighter. Always cracking that signature “so dope” with a big smile.
The world is quieter and a little darker without him in it. But his spirit? That lives loud in every story we tell, every photo we share and every time one of us chooses to show up for someone else the way he always did.
Miss you Zack. Love you brother. Rest easy. 🖤
