The path of an athlete is not linear. It’s a journey of constant evolution, where the only opponent worth beating is the person you were yesterday.

Marit Bjørgen won 6 Olympic golds, 18 gold medals at World Cup Championships, and 110 World Cup victories.
The defining feature of her training?
An immense ramp up in volume from 522 hours / year at age 20, to 910 hours / year at age 35.
This was a progression of ~30 hours per year, and increased her training time from 10 hours / week to 18 hours per week.
The majority of her training hours were low intensity work (below the first lactate threshold).
The 910h consisted of ~850h endurance training with 92% at low intensity.

The answer, according to a recent study from @BradSchoenfeld's group, is yes - even for experienced lifters who should know what they're doing.
