Did you know the MATE desktop hasn't had a release announcement since version 1.26 in 2021?
There still isn't an announcement, BUT
MATE 1.28 has been official since February 12th. You can get it in places like #Fedora Rawhide, OpenMandriva Cooker and #Slackware Current.

So I let #Fedora #Rawhide with #Plasma 6 RC1 simmer for a while because after a few updates, things were very good. Well, I decided to upgrade to RC2 and beyond recently and... 7.2GB LOL. That's the entire system isn't it?

Sometimes I think about the smell that used to come off the back of CRT monitors after they got warm.
That was a good smell.

I couldn't pass up the opportunity to upgrade to the best #Linux #Kernel ever, 6.6.6. Of course, it had to be in front of an Iron Maiden poster!🤘

So Fedora 35 has been EOL since December. I wonder if it'll still upgrade to newer editions, or just crash and burn leaving me with a chore
The repos are still up as I can still dnf upgrade
We've got 700MB of packages to get. Let's upgrade & find out!

Weekend Project!
My serial transceiver came in yesterday, and now I have all the parts to build a #FriendlyElec R2S #router using @ipfire .
Been dreaming of a real #Linux router for quite a while, and now it's time!
Now, let's see if I can do this without exploding things

Preparing a hardware swap and I'm at a crossroads. Should I just upgrade the VMWare ESXi hypervisor I've been using, or make a change?
I need one Linux VM with a GUI, so fast desktop render would be nice, but minimal footprint. The rest are SSH only.
What would you pick? 😵💫

Did you know the command line in #Linux has a trash can, same as the desktop? It's called trash-cli & they work together!
To trash a file:
trash /file/path
To untrash a file:
trash-restore [then select the file]
It's in your repo!
Thanks @andreafrancia!

This might be old news, but I dug through Firefox settings and found browser.uidensity. Turning it on slims up the tabs and toolbar by a few pixels.
So much more room for the web!

Now that #LinuxMint has announced the upgrade, it's time to move from 21 Vanessa to 21.1 Vera. I'm looking forward to those new, fancy colors.
This is my main workstation, and I have a new ISO ready just in case, but I think this upgrade's gonna go pretty smoothly. 🧵👇
