With three consecutive Division 2 state titles, and five in the last 13 seasons, Medfield girls’ basketball has established itself as a perennial power.
The architect and driving force behind the program’s success — which includes a perfect 25-0 record last season — is coach Mark Nickerson, a 1988 Medfield graduate who has held the position since 2004.
“He puts so much thought and time into it, and he’s super knowledgeable,” assistant coach Mary Laughna said. “He really cares about every single girl, even down to the last girl on the bench.” bostonglobe.com/2026/04/04/s… @GlobeSchools @mnick40 @MedfieldAD

Keep your kids playing multiple sports for as long as possible. Don't listen to club coaches pushing them to specialize. They'll become more well-rounded athletes and people (and far less prone to injury/burnout) if they don't.
If you're good enough, colleges will find you.
Dear young athletes- keep this photo saved to your phone and show the next person who says you have to focus on one sport in HS.
The amount of kids I’ve heard say “I can’t risk getting hurt” or “my coach won’t let me” drives me crazy.
You get one shot to be a HS athlete.

Geno Auriemma said, "If you just want to be average then you do average work."
"If you want to get A's in basketball then you have to do stuff that other people aren't willing to do."
Average effort = average results.
The difference between average and elite?

One of the D8 final 4 football games will feature two teams with enrollments in the range of schools in D5. Both are staying in D8 next year, Randolph due to the CEM and an appeal granted on top of that, NVT due to voc schools dropping (1? 2?)divisions and an appeal granted on top of that. Schools with much smaller enrollments, in some cases less than half, are moving up to 7 with appeals denied. The CEM, voc rules, and appeal process are impacting other sports too. Whether you think all of this is equitable or not, I think it should at least be publicized more. @BostonHeraldHS @MIAA033
