No Weeklies this weekend either since I'm traveling from Coimbatore, back to Bengaluru. But, unlike other drives, this time, I stuck to Deva's songs, instead of Raja's! Used an app called Tamil Vanoli which had streams of Deva (and all composers + FM stations as well).

Did Blue Sattai Maaran really think that writer Rahul Sankrityayan, who wrote Volga se Ganga (that Maaran refers to in great detail), and who died in 1963, is the director of the new Telugu film 'Ranabaali'? 😳

Lovely write-up on Deva, by Deepan Ramachandran, founder of the ad agency Mind Your Language (MYL).

Not enough new songs worthy of a playlist... pushing Weeklies to next weekend.

Rest in peace, Deva! You had a solid run, even amidst giants - that's a terrific achievement.

Milliblog Weeklies, week 314 tinyurl.com/OCT11-2026 Pritam's surprisingly wonderful song in a biopic, two Vidyasagar'ish melodies in Tamil, Thaman's another winner in Itllu Arjuna, Charanraj's fantastic songs from Shankarabharanna, Hesham's continuing good work in Brindavihari.

Milliblog Weeklies, week 313 tinyurl.com/OCT04-2026 Raja magic again in Dorothy, my other picks from Sai Abhyankkar's Baththa, good new singles from Ajay-Atul, Hesham, lovely new pop singles by Monali Thakur, Sanjeeta Bhattacharya & Raag Sethi, Sai Vignesh and more.

Quite a surprise - last 2 weeks haven't given me enough new good songs to make a decent playlist! I have just about 7 (or may be 8, if I'm being very generous) songs from new releases. So, pushing Weeklies to next (long) weekend.

Way too much work last week, and the coming week! Haven't found the time to listen to new releases. Pushing Weeklies to next weekend.

Also, a related editorial in TOI (which too overlooks any and every Southern artist, but at least here I understand the context specifically came from the Malaysian PM singing a Hindi song).

Interesting, but completely overlooks any Southern artist! S.Janaki, P.Jayachandran, Uma Ramanan, Vani Jayaram... all passed away in the last 2-3 years. Data around their songs before-after their passing away could have added more value to this story/hypothesis.

Milliblog Weeklies, Week 312 tinyurl.com/SEP13-2026 Packed playlist that belongs to Govind Vasantha, with his Hindi soundtrack where he gets Amit Trivedi to croon, and his lovely Tamil song! Plus, my picks from Ilaiyaraaja's Dorothy, Sai Abhyankkar's genre resurrection & more.

What a pleasant surprise from Sai Abhyankkar! A very un-Sai-Abhyankkar-like song! A very good melody without the usual trappings of the composer. youtube.com/watch?v=FhhA5pur…

Limited worthy new songs (even taking into account Dorothy OST) this week. Plus, want to wait for a week to fully soak into Dorothy OST (and perhaps see if better credits appear than the skeletal ones we have so far). Pushing Weeklies to next weekend.

Dorothy OST is truly mind-blowing!! tinyurl.com/dorothyost Ilayaraja produces a cornucopia of music that is so identifiable with his style and full of surprises too at the same time.

Very interesting case! The song referred to in the case - Fish Market (1989) tinyurl.com/fishmarket1989
