I get snarky comments all the time about posting buys of digital art. Generally from degens who lose their stacks trading absolute junk coins/memes, ironically. Being in the space for a while now, one thing is clear this crypto cycle. Nobody is building any real shit (there are exceptions ofc), because there is a faster path to riches building stuff degens will gamble on, and because let's face it, the use cases just aren't for the masses. Teams are just building novel forms of online casinos under fancy technical names. The optimist in me will say we're just still a decade away. I can hope. So when I buy digital art, I'm buying art, not tokens with pictures or memes with pictures. I am buying art from artists I have a human connection with and appreciation for. I'm being art I believe is beautiful, creative, and interesting that resonates with me. Art that creates an emotion. And I'm happy to buy it, knowing it might not be worth what I paid for it in the future. In some ways, besides money (bitcoin and an early form of defi), digital art on chain might be the only real and logical use case I believe crypto has developed and is a great fit for. Doesn't mean you can get rich off it, buying art as an investment is probably one of the hardest things to do. But when you separate the real artists/collectors from the degens and tokenWifPics crowd, although smallish today, there is an organic and real community beneath not playing the casino game.
