"Just as the psychical or the screen of the psyche transforms every illness into a symptom (there is no organic illness which does not find its meaning elsewhere, in an interpretation of the ailment on another level: all the symptoms pass through a sort of black box in which the psychic images are jumbled and inverted, the illness becomes reversible, ungraspable, escaping any form of realistic medicine)" -Jean Baudrillard

Adding a second amendment dimension to the AI conversation is so interesting to me. AI being primarily taken as some force for the creation of value means you’re shoehorning in creative destruction in the market as justifiable self defense. Taking the recent spyware in the TV reverse engineering debacle as an example, the analogy fits like the glass slipper. Your only defense against the most parasitical practices of the large firms has only ever been savant level proficiency in making the thing for yourself or depending on some other savant to make it and release it out of some sort of charity. (For many things in the commercial realm that is not possible due to “compliance” however.) There is something like “the dissident right is a mutation of right libertarianism under conditions of duress” moment happening with this overlap of people that like right to repair and technology in general. Collapse of the Ron Paul revolution ➡️ Moldbug is failure of right to repair ➡️ revenge modification of software + right to bear qwen models extremism. Downright Landian. Looking forward to more of this trend.
We believe access to capable open-source cyber models is our constitutional right as Americans under the 2nd Amendment. It is our duty as technologists and patriots to help protect the digital infrastructure that powers the world's largest economy. As such, we’re serving our cyber models “at-cost”, in US data centers only, with ZDR enabled by default. We do not plan to make money serving these models. If you run a company that is considering how to best protect against cybercrime, reach out to me or @atbeme. We’d be happy to advise. KYC required. Apply below.

this is why anything ‘smart’ almost always only ever serves to make life more frustrating and difficult

Gilbert Simondon talks about this in “the mode of existence of the technical object”. The world of tools being able to have a “dialogue” with you or demand things of you is a special type of hell.
been noticing it’s not uncommon for newer models of microwave to be sassier, more uppity. they can ‘talk back’ — they’ll nag you if your food’s been done for like 5 mins by beeping again, even louder than before. mind your own business

There’s something akin to “post-nut clarity” but for getting over the hump of being sick. You go out to Walgreens to reup on sprite and decongestants and you can just see everything differently, calmer. Hard to describe.

You’re welcome friend 🫡
My coworker spent one year in Tennessee. He came back to Tokyo two months ago. He is not the same man. He says "y'all" in meetings. To our boss. He holds the door for the entire floor. Twelve people. Every morning. He asked the convenience store clerk how her day was going. She had to sit down. He calls every man "bud." Including the CEO. He refuses to describe anything under three hours away as "far." He waves at drivers who let him cross. One driver waved back and almost hit a pole. Last week, he told a junior employee, "I'm proud of you." She went to the restroom and cried for ten minutes. We thought it would wear off. It didn't. It's spreading. Three people in accounting now say "y'all." The junior employee holds the door. The convenience store clerk asks HIM how his day is going. Tennessee, I don't know what you did to him. Please do it to the rest of us.

“That’s actually rule #2. Rule #1 is to HAVE FUN!”
Even with a flag in the chamber you don't put your finger on the trigger or point it at someone. Thats literally gun safety 101.

It’s really time to drop 4 bands on anything you can get your hands on with 128gb of ram and just do everything with 120b class models locally. I’ve been having fun with my ROG flow z13.
Claude can no longer “Reverse Engineer Anything.” Anthropic just quietly killed REA. But Interesting timing. After a few viral cases of people using Claude to reverse-engineer Samsung TV firmware and identify data-collection services, Anthropic appears to have restricted those reverse-engineering abilities.

Yeah man, UMC churches are closer to baphomet than Jesus. Kinda like how you’re closer to a competitive chili-cheese fry eater than a pastor.
I am a husband, father, and lifelong Texan. I’ve been a Christian since I was 5 and a pastor since I was 19. And I just proudly voted for James Talarico, Gina Hinojosa, Jon Rosenthal, and Vikki Goodwin. While it’s true that Ken Paxton is as corrupt and morally bankrupt as they come, Greg Abbott has decimated our public schools, Dan Patrick is bought and paid for by right-wing billionaires, and Bo French wears his racism on his sleeve, I didn’t just vote AGAINST candidates I know will do a bad job. I had the privilege of voting FOR candidates who will do a great job! I originally connected with Jimmy Talarico many years ago (long before he got famous) and we became friends shortly after. He’s the exact same guy in private as he is in public—kindhearted, whip smart, hardworking, and very serious about following Jesus’ call to care for all people, especially the most vulnerable. That’s who he’s been in ministry, in the Texas Legislature, and I have no doubt that’s who he’ll be as a United States Senator too. I’ve also gotten to speak with Gina Hinojosa, Jon Rosenthal, and Vikki Goodwin this year. I believe they will fight for two things that are very important to my family and so many people in our church community: 1. An economy where every Texan can afford to have their basic needs met. 2. Fully funded public schools where all children can thrive. I’m not telling you who to vote for; I’m just telling you who I chose to vote for and why. We are in a critical moment in both the United States and Texas, so I hope you vote. And if you are a follower of Jesus, I hope you see your vote as a way to prioritize the way of Jesus—sacrificial love of neighbor and justice for those who have been marginalized.
