🚨NEW PAPER🚨 We meta-reanalyze 100 conjoint experiments to assess immigration preferences in 36 countries. This was an excellent team to work with and keep an eye out for @marcomavina and @PriyankaSethy_ on the market! See Marco's great thread for more! science.org/doi/10.1126/scia…
NEW in @ScienceAdvances, after 3 years of work with a great team:
We review and meta-analyze 100 immigrant conjoint experiments in 36 countries.

ALT APSR abstract for “Crime and Participation,” by David Doherty, G. Agustin Markarian, Mena Whalen, and Dana Garbarski, Using survey data from 21 U.S. cities, the authors find direct crime victimization increases non-electoral engagement but lowers turnout, while perceived neighborhood safety raises non-electoral participation only. Listening to @UpFirst podcast increases trust in podcast news + NPR but that doesn’t spill over into trust in news more generally. Glad this paper w/ @junghwanyang @simonsaysnothin @p_barbera is out!
Randomizing uptake of NPR's @UpFirst podcast for 5 days increases news consumption & knowledge of events (esp. among more right-leaning voters), trust in NPR, etc but not trust in the news more generally; no effect on attitudes or political beliefs. An @andyguess et al. joint

Randomizing college students to use (or not use) TikTok "increased negative emotional affect but had seemingly no effect on political attitudes." AKA, short-form influencer content makes you mad but doesn't change your politics (a similar result we see from FB studies)

🚨 New publication alert: Do Americans change their attitudes toward "culture war" groups when these groups shift how they vote in presidential elections?
In a word, 𝐧𝐨. 👎 An important case of null results, we find no clear shift in attitudes, either for better or for worse.
