❄️ NOAA 2026–27 WINTER OUTLOOK
The Climate Prediction Center (CPC) has released its 2026–27 Winter Outlook, providing an early look at what the upcoming winter could bring.
The outlook calls for above-average temperatures across the northern and much of the eastern United States, including the Midwest.
For precipitation, below-normal precipitation is favored across portions of the Great Lakes, while above-normal precipitation is forecast across the southern U.S. and along the East Coast. Much of the Midwest is currently in an equal chances category, meaning neither above- nor below-normal precipitation is favored.
Keep in mind, this is a seasonal outlook—not a day-to-day winter forecast. Conditions can vary significantly throughout the season, and we'll continue to track the trends as winter approaches.

I remember 17 yr old me plugging a sprint internet card into my laptop & accessing GR3 V1, thinking how far we have come. Now I get on here & see a new peice of software everyday that looks better & does a million more things. If I knew at 17 what would be over 20 years later 😱

A FEW GUSTY THUNDERSTORMS THURSDAY?
An area of low pressure will move across the Ohio Valley on Thursday. Combined with stronger winds aloft and the potential for increasing instability, this could support a few strong to perhaps severe thunderstorms Thursday afternoon into the evening.
This will be a conditional severe weather threat, largely dependent on how much instability develops throughout the day. For now, locally damaging wind gusts appear to be the primary concern.
We'll continue to monitor trends in the forecast as we get closer to Thursday! #INwx #ILwx #OHwx
