Overseas Minister says police operation to clear the road to airport was a “success” (removal of 76 roadblocks/obstacles). 700 extra police have arrived with 350 more coming today. These include GIGN paramilitary units and elite RAID (counter-terror and VIP protection officers).

Grâce aux 700 forces de l’ordre supplémentaires arrivées et aux 350 qui arriveront aujourd’hui, dont de nombreux militaires du GIGN et policiers du RAID, les opérations vont se multiplier dans les prochaines heures. Déjà plus de 200 interpellations et la réouverture de 20 commerces alimentaires. Nous savons qu’il y a encore beaucoup de barrages à lever pour imposer l’ordre républicain : les consignes de fermeté sont passées. After lengthy debate, the French National Assembly votes 351 - 153 to adopt legislation opening up the electoral rolls in #NewCaledonia to an estimated 25,800 extra voters. The law must still be approved by a joint sitting of Senate and National Assembly, postponed to late June.
