Suuuuuuuper excited to see our work on the transcriptional dynamics of TEs across mammalian embryos finally out on @CellCellPress ! Short version: from rabbits, to cows, to pigs, to mice and even monkeys... TEs of all classes and ages are transcriptionally activated at ZGA ⚡
Very excited that our paper is now online! cell.com/cell/fulltext/S0092… Long thread on our findings on the other app 🦋

Ancient Viral DNA Shapes Early Embryo Development Researchers at #HelmholtzMunich & @LMU_Muenchen have uncovered the crucial role of transposable elements— ancient viral #DNA remnants— in early embryo development: 👉t1p.de/pb7sc Key insights: 🌟Ancient viral DNA, once thought to be extinct, is reactivated during the first stages of embryonic development across mammalian species. 🌟Each species expresses distinct transposable elements, which influence cellular plasticity and gene regulation. 💡This discovery opens new possibilities for manipulating cell fate and advancing stem cell research. 💬“Our findings highlight how understanding these elements can revolutionize gene regulation and cellular processes.” Prof. Maria-Elena Torres-Padilla @METorresPadilla @epigeneticsHMGU @meoomen @DiegoRTerrones @CellPressNews #EmbryoDevelopment #Genomics #ViralDNA #StemCells

We developed a simple highly-optimized version of 2nd gen Hi-C, called FLIE HI-C, which takes 2 days instead of 4-5, uses 5-20 fold less reagents, and needs only 100-1000 fold less input material. Importantly, we keep all the controls and the interaction map quality is excellent.

Very happy of this joint work with @meoomen and @job_dekker. Not all species fold exactly the same way and not all loop extruders behave the same regarding CTCF. Mitosis really offers unique opportunities to test and understand key molecular questions. Take a look!

(2) When investigating the average mitotic loop length, we found that this is species (and not cell type!) specific. The longer the average q-arm length, the longer the loops that are formed in mitosis.
