Great paper on imaging individual as well as multiple ribosomes and on how ribosomes translate efficiently!
Our paper on Stopless-ORF Circular RNAs (socRNAs) is now out in Cell. By high-res tracking and comparing translation by either single or multiple ribosomes, we find that ribosomes cooperate to overcome pausing to ensure fast and efficient translation

We were delighted to be able to contribute with a small calculation for how heterogeneously ribosomes walk. Thanks @MarvinTanenbaum @_SoraY and Max Madern!

Read the #OpenAccess Research Article "Unravelling differential Hes1 dynamics during axis elongation of mouse embryos through single-cell tracking" here:
journals.biologists.com/dev/…

ALT Figure 7(L) Schematic highlighting lower Hes1-Achilles expression level and higher Hes1-Achilles amplitude in PSM cells compared with pre-NT cells. In addition, decreasing Notch signalling does not interfere with proliferation in the pre-NT, even though it results in lower Hes1 expression level and amplitude, but leaves the period unchanged. Conversely, induced differentiation by FGF inhibition increases Hes1-Achilles amplitude

Impressive work on ribosomes from the Tanenbaum lab, showing also that ribosomes move at different speeds. Also pointer to Marvin's second post: Great PD @_SoraY is on the jobmarket this year!
Two new lab papers: In the first paper we develop Stopless-ORF circRNAs (socRNAs), a technique to measure translation by individual ribosomes with incredible precision. Amazing work jointly led by @MadernMax and @_SoraY.

Hes genes are dynamically expressed in many tissues. But how do dynamics differ between tissues and are they always oscillatory?
We have addressed this question in the context of the developing embryo, where somites and neural tube form side-by-side.

Looking forward to the NWO Physics of Life seminar with Ray Goldstein next Thursday! We'll also have talks by Jorine Eeftens, and PhD presentations by Nico Schramma, Katharina Till and Ketan Ganar. Thanks to the NWO PoL Roundtable :)
One week until the first edition of the NWO Physics of Life seminar series. 30 Nov @waag A'dam with talks from Ray Goldstein, @DrJorine and others. Big thank you to @mbauer67 and @SiddhuLab. Looking forward to see you at this PoL community event. nwobiophysics.nl/pol
Happy to share our new paper in PRX Life! We apply the information bottleneck to molecular sensing problems; for signals in early fly development, and Gaussian signals generally, we identify a universal tradeoff between obtaining crucial information and measuring noisily.
This Post is from an account that no longer exists. Learn more
This tradeoff means that the optimal curves on the information plane collapse for different signals (if signals and sensors can be described by conditional Gaussian probability distributions).
Congrats Erwin!
Breaking news: Erwin Frey from @PhysOfLifeLMU will be awarded the Max Planck medal 2024. This is the highest award of the German Physical Society for theoretical physics. dpg-physik.de/veroeffentlich…

Thanks #NWOBiophysics for a great time in Veldhoven these last two days - great keynotes by @FakhriLab and @StephanGrill, great plenaries by @gwuite, @SaricLab, @AubinTam, Rifka Vlijm, Tom Scheenen and Clemens Kaminski, great sessions, and lots of nice conversations.
I have an opening for a Theoretical Biophysics PhD position :) The position has a focus on understanding virus gene regulation and packaging, w/ experimental collaborations. But it's a theoretical position and so there is flexibility.
For more details, email me or see tudelft.nl/over-tu-delft/wer…
Super excited for NWO Biophysics this year, with keynotes from @FakhriLab and @StephanGrill, and many cool plenary talks. Abstract deadline for oral presentation is coming up, don't forget to submit on time :)
Reminder: There is less than a week left to submit your abstract for an oral presentation at NWO Biophysics 2023. Would you like to present your research at the annual conference on physics of life? Submit your abstract now! nwobiophysics.nl/abstracts-0
