I recently looked up their review of Madonna’s Confessions from 2005, and it was rife with misogyny and ageism — of course, written by a man — because Madonna had the audacity to exist at 47 years old and release a record. That site was always a problem
Always insane whiplash when you go to see if Pitchfork rated/reviewed an older album that’s been in your rotation and discovering the craziest casual misogyny. Like I know this gets mentioned all the time but it really was the wild fucking west there for a few years.

I worry people are truly unaware of how much nursing homes/memory care cost. I’m talking life-altering amounts of money, hundreds of thousands, for those that pay for it. It’s better if your parents hang on to the $ to pay for their elder care, if they have it at all. Many don’t.
I’m listening to a podcast about younger generations wanting their inheritance now from Boomers. I get it, but I think some Boomers are concerned about having enough money to last for their lives, particularly with the cost of healthcare. Said as a Gen X guy. Thoughts?

“The only way to win is to not play” is true for both nuclear war and poly market
Polymarket has created a market that would monetize a nuclear attack amid increasing concerns that bets are happening among government insiders who can make military decisions.

Call me crazy but I don’t think we should celebrate the “record in stealth” messaging, let alone tout it as a product feature.
introducing Waves, camera glasses for creators. record in stealth. livestream all day. pre-order now.
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
Recording other People and on Private Property without knowledge or consent is illegal in many countries around the world, including the US. “Stealth” Recording people is also a crime in much of the world. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Legality_… en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Photograp…

It’s Upfronts week which means it’s time for a reminder about some industry lore: Years ago Vice Media’s Upfronts invitation said “Upfronts are better than reacharounds.” Say what you will about Vice but they were always on-brand.

Assuming this was a real ad (unclear if it is) and if Y&R still existed, it could have rebooted the concept with an “AI can’t cry” tagline. AI can help creatives but it can’t fully replace human creativity, etc.
Ad agencies, advertising themselves. Y&R, 1964. "A computer can tell you how old she is. It can tell you where she lives. But a copywriter like Greta Nissen can tell you what makes her cry. Or laugh. Or buy." #advertising #adsforadagencies

It’s been heading in this direction for a while now, but 2023 is the year that showed a lot of business models in media and advertising can no longer continue operating as they have been and cannot continue to structure themselves they way they do. Thus consolidation
"Decades from now, media executives and investors will likely look back at 2023 as the year where linear TV advertising officially broke." Sobering note from Wall Street analyst Michael Nathanson.

Conan’s narrated ads on his podcast are always good. In his Super Bowl Miller Lite ad he said he’d throw himself out a window if he was at a party without Miller Lite. And for a LinkedIn B2B ad, he said “you work in B2B, nobody knows what you do.” Let the man write more ads
Do you actually listen to podcast ads? Be honest.

This is so funny and feels like parody but I assume someone is out there trying to do these product placement inserts with AI. Gonna be terrible.

This man packed 200 years of living and wisdom into 65. Today the Irish and its diaspora mourn a king.
Shane MacGowan, Irish singer-songwriter and The Pogues frontman has sadly passed away. He formed the Irish punk band Pogue Mahone, later shortened to The Pogues, in 1982 and released seven studio albums. Our thoughts are with his family and friends.

“Mazzari said that he’s reached out to Applebee’s to try to nail a promotional package, but without any luck. ‘I will take my business to Chili’s if it comes to that,’ he told SFGATE.” He brought new life to Man on the Street interviews, give him what he wants
i talked to Steve Mazzari, the SF man who became a local celebrity after "slammin' Dollaritas" at Applebee's during an earthquake. i love journalism trib.al/Mwe92qu
