“I know the world will come apart.” The melody, chords, and lyrics all came to me at once. I wasn’t sure where these words came from but I think sometimes the beauty of writing a song is that you trust the words as they’re coming out of your mouth.
This song is fun to play because the pedal steel is in from the first note. Usually pedal steel comes in and out of a song, I gave myself the challenge of writing a pedal steel part that runs throughout the whole song. When we started talking about doing a performance with La Blogoteque I thought it would be amazing to bring a Pedal Steel outside, plug it in to power somehow and have the rest of us acoustic.

“In A River” is one of my favorite songs but it didn’t come out on an album. It was the first song I wrote after my record Half-Light and it was the first song I wrote on a mandolin. It’s about a town in Massachusetts that does not have a river. It’s actually about a beach that fills up and empties out with water.
In this one-take we got to capture a piece of Paris, a piece of sunset, the full song, and the dance of director Clara Griot weaving between the four of us on the roof.

Ten years later, me and Hamilton Leithauser are hitting the road together playing ‘I Had A Dream That You Were Mine’ with a rocking band and some special guests we love.
You’ll also get solo songs from each of us, so we’re calling it The Joint Tour. See you in November —

Under the current Democrat rule of Hakeem Jeffries and Chuck Schumer, Republicans control the House, the Senate, and the White House.
Why would anyone take election advice from these absolute losers?
We need a simple federal law that bans all elected officials, their offices, and their political parties, from using AI to generate images or video of said officials in situations where they may fall sick or no longer be in the realm of the living.
If Mitch McConnell is sick or gone it cannot be legal to use AI to convince the American people otherwise.
Instead of using your platform to say this nonsense, use your platform to publicly call out the Republican Party for using AI to generate a patently fake image of Mitch McConnell in the hospital. If you can’t do at least that much, please stop.
This is false. Look at what the Republican party has done for the last 30 years; they have pushed red seats redder and by doing so moved the center to the right. Also, the reason Democrats have lost so many seats is that centrist (“purple”) platforms have not inspired voters to vote .

“Forgive is to Know” started with four chords that I wrote on a rubber bridge guitar leant to me by Ethan Gruska. The first lyrics that came were for the chorus, and they quote Alexander Pope, who wrote, in 1711, “To err is human, to forgive, divine.”
•
From there, I went on a journey writing verses. I probably spent a couple years writing the verses of this song and I wrote more than could fit in one song… and I did something that I rarely do which was to write about songwriting itself in those opening couplets.
•
Still my favorite line came to me as I was in the midst of recording vocals: “…that the institutions don’t reward the compassionate.”
