Truth about elephant slavery:
There are no "tame" elephants.
There are only enslaved elephants.
They endure extreme torture.
They all belong in the wild.

Historic comeback in Brazil! And perhaps, more importantly, the emergence of a new playbook for beating the far right: Challenge social media algorithms in the courts, reclaim the flag, call out extractivist fascism and fill the streets and the networks.
Brazil, you beauty!

I made a lovely discovery in my hallway whilst undertaking some renovation work at the weekend. Needless to say we shall be bringing these back to their former glory! #minton #tiles #heritage #stokeontrent

Moustache visible through the Shuttle’s window.
Interesting how rough-textured the thermal blankets and tiles were. Amazing spaceship to fly - this photo was taken from Mir.

Some lockdown-induced home renovation recklessness: took a knife to the lino in the bathroom...and found the original Edwardian tiles! My great great gran was a housemaid here in Cupar in the 1880s. I thought of her as I spent the afternoon scrubbing this 113yr old floor.

Aperiodic order: it fills everything, but never repeats.
Penrose tapestry rhombi and darts locked in perfect five-fold symmetry, golden ratio spirals branching into fractals, fluid swirls and cosmic foam bubbling between the tiles.

Sir Roger Penrose stands beside the tiling he discovered in the 1970s.
A pattern that fills space without ever repeating itself.
Two rhombi enforce aperiodicity through matching rules. Thin and thick tiles appear in the ratio of the golden ratio φ ≈ 1.618 as the region grows.
Every finite patch recurs infinitely often, yet the whole admits no translational symmetry.
Local constraints alone produce endless non-periodic order.
