50 years ago, Dave Allen told a joke about newspaper readers in 1976, it would become more famous 11 years after this on Yes, Prime Minister in 1987.

This is the third time in three PMQs that Andy Burnham has had to correct what he’s said afterwards.
This is now a recurring pattern where the PM spends all his time fixing his own gaffes, instead of sorting out welfare or finding the money to defend our country.

Seriously??? This is not a game, this is not just about creating footage for socials. You are supposed to be running our country you are just a horrible joke, both of you. An expensive (for taxpayers) joke @Ed_Miliband @JohnHealey_MP

You’re being lied to about Brexit … the people voted for it. Don’t let an unelected PM make up unsubstantiated stories & dismantle democracy because it suits a socialist agenda to pass responsibility to Brussels & the WEF away from Westminster
Simple message engage brain before speaking #Bapman
Well now … has Burnham just misled Parliament? … Because from where I sit it is very clear.
▪️The rest is politics …
“Was there interference in the 2016 referendum from Russia and I had the clear answer back. Yes there was”
▪️And then in Parliament …
“We have evidence they tried to interfere in the 2019 election and we think it’s inconceivable this was the first time.
So erm …. He gobbed off on a left wing podcast and didn’t think we’d notice? Er… we did.

🚨I can reveal there was crucial disinformation injected into Andy Burnham’s Makerfield election campaign.
He told the voters of Makerfield (who overwhelmingly voted for Brexit), that he would not "re-run" Brexit arguments.
That he was NOT proposing the UK considers rejoining the EU.
Having won that election on that basis, he is now doing the very thing he promised not to do.
So @andyburnham, is this also “Russian interference”, or are you just a self-serving liar?

Getting laughable now Mr Burnham @UKLabour

Burnham’s attempts to insinuate that the Brexit vote was rigged by Russian bots is a collective slur against 17.4m Leave voters and a cack-handed political intervention. If he’s seeking to weaken the moral case against Britain regaining its sovereignty, he’s making a misjudgment.

Implying that 17.2 million people were brainwashed by Russia into voting for Brexit and not wanting to take orders from the undemocratic, sovereignty undermining, socialist EU project … is dangerous misinformation.
Designed by government to undermine its own people.

The Prime Minister is spreading conspiracy theories about the Brexit referendum.
I've written to ask @AngelaRayner whether she thinks this risks eroding trust in our democracy.
Politicians shouldn't try to undermine democratic votes just because they don't like the result.

Russia tried but failed to interfere in the Brexit referendum. Confirmed by the security minister. Confirmed by the Foreign Office. Burnham should apologise to the British people in the Commons today for trying to delegitimise the result with his half truths. Shameful.

In an interview @andyburnham says there's evidence #russia influenced Brexit referendum. What evidence? Publish it. Another Remainer who can't accept the will of the people

Have I got this right?
I voted Leave not because I’d done research into the undemocratic and arrogant way the EU over-ruled votes by member countries.
Not because I’d come to the conclusion I didn’t want my country shackled to a corrupt, sclerotic, socialist bloc.
But because I was told to vote Brexit by a Russian bot?
Mark Thomas retweeted
Dear Andy Burnham, the Oxford Internet Institute examined social media after the Brexit vote.
Their conclusion was that Russian traffic made up around a one thousandth of just one percent of Brexit traffic.
Thus, I suspect you're lying; so put up your evidence or shut up.

It’s a tough job being Chair of the Labour Party.
Just ask Bridget Phillipson.
I wrote to her on the 21st September offering to work with her cross party and to set up a meeting with the Piddington women and to meet rape gang survivors together.
You see in case you’d missed it - Bridget is also the Women’s and Equalities Minister.
I’ve not had a reply. I guess because I’m not a Labour voter. But she has told the media the answer is no, so we know she won’t work cross-party on women’s safety.
The taxpayer is paying Bridget Phillipson to be the Women and Equalities Minister, not to Chair the Labour Party.
But she is Chair of the Labour Party first, Women and Equalities Minister second.

Bridget,
Hope is a lovely word. In your job it has to be.
Your words, exactly:
"Holborn & St Pancras backed Sagal and voted for Labour's message of hope. This is a fantastic victory that gives us real momentum to build on."
Now the numbers you left out.
Your fantastic victory won 12,292 votes. Your majority fell from 11,572 to 3,364. You lost eight thousand votes of cushion.
Turnout was 38.76%. The lowest by-election turnout in England this parliament. Down fifteen points on 2024. The Green vote rose twenty two points. That is your momentum.
So when you say Holborn backed Sagal, about seventeen people in every hundred backed Sagal. Sixty two stayed home.
Now the record.
This is Keir Starmer's old seat. Labour has held it since 1983. The safest ground the party owns. And your message of hope cut the majority by three quarters.
And you are the one saying it, Bridget. Burnham sacked you as Education Secretary in July and demoted you. Then handed you the party chair, which is the job of being pleased. Of course it is fantastic.
Real momentum to build on.
Momentum needs mass. A 38% turnout is not mass. Momentum needs speed. A shrunken majority is not speed.
Your triumphant post drew 88 likes.
The Greens gained twenty two points and you call it hope.
You were demoted and you call it momentum.
