Excited to see our latest planetary boundary paper out! Happy that the Earth system model I coupled during my PhD played a crucial role in this important study! #POEM @PIK_Climate @WHuiskamp @W_Lucht @jrockstrom
All #PlanetaryBoundaries mapped out, six of nine crossed: For the first time, a team of scientists is able to provide a full picture of planetary resilience. Pressure in all those boundary processes is increasing, newly published research shows: pik-potsdam.de/en/news/lates…

Super interesting conference, where @PIK_Climate is attending with a small team of fire and vegetation modelers. With the severe fire season this year in Germany and Europe future fire risk assessment and management is more important than ever. @MaikBilling

My wife found this experiment but it's true. Large part of our flooding "A Meteorologist from the University of Reading shows just how long it takes water to soak into parched ground, illustrating why heavy rainfall after a drought can be dangerous and might lead to flash floods"

Earth constantly receives 175 Petawatt of solar energy. Global energy consumption currently is 0.02 Petawatt. We thus receive 175/0.02 = 8750 times the amount we need. There is no question about "turning the planet into a power plant"; it's about a tiny fraction of our planet.
When I see pictures like this I wonder, "Is this /really/ the future?' I'm not convinced turning the planet into a power plant is the way to save it.
