I've had a chat with Jools Holland about meeting his heroes, near misses, and a time and place in TV that doesn't exist any more: radiotimes.com/tv/entertainm… His fantastic 1985 documentary Walking to New Orleans is showing again this Sunday from 9.30pm on BBC Four. @RadioTimes

Back in the day - when I was Head of Arts at Channel 4 - I commissioned a music show called The White Room. It was great fun to make. I remember when Prince was on… He later married the dancer! m.youtube.com/watch?v=GWGo4X…

I’m crushed by the dreadful news tonight. R.I.P Jeff. All my love to Sandra and family.

Ella Fitzgerald (at the back of the bus) in an an Abbott and Costello western. Apparently her bit was cut out to assist the sensibilities of southern audiences. Here we have the rest of the film cut out to assist modern sensibilities.

Caught up with last Friday's impressive BBC4 documentary about the life and music of Lindisfarne's much-missed Alan Hull. So many timeless songs. Without question he was one of UK's greatest songwriters.
