Seal impressions can reveal ownership, reading practices, and the journeys of manuscripts. A new project is creating a database of seals from manuscripts in the Islamic world. It will link images and descriptions and develop tools for automated recognition

كُتُب الرد على الشافعي؛
وهي أثر قيرواني خالص، ظلت زماناً السدّ المانع من توغُّل الشافعية والداودية ببلادنا.
فهذه الطبقة من أئمة المالكية قد ردت الأمر إلى منزعه الأوّل، فإذا كان مالك - كما زعم الشافعي - يخالف الحديث، فإن تلاميذه بيّنوا أن الشافعي مخالف للكتاب والحديث والأثر.

Great to see a translation and edition coming out. Important commentary by a significant thinker, Jalal al-Din al-Dawani. There’s an interesting part in the commentary where Dawani says the Asharis (yes, very specific) is the saved sect.

"أساطير" القرآنية ليست من أصل يوناني
1/ الجذر اللغوي (سطر) ورد في القرآن الكريم بأكثر من صيغة:
أ. "يسطرون": {والقلمِ وما يَسْطُرون} [القلم:1]، أي: يكتبون.
ب. "مسطور": {كان ذلك في الكتاب مسطورًا} [الإسراء:58؛ الأحزاب:6]، أي: مكتوبًا. {وكتابٍ مسطور} [الطور:2]، أي: مكتوب.

What a difference twelve years can make...
I have approved the Metropolitan Police’s request to ban the Al Quds march.
I am satisfied doing so is necessary to prevent serious public disorder, due to the scale of the protest and multiple counter-protests, in the context of the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.
Should a stationary demonstration proceed, the police will be able to apply strict conditions.
I expect to see the full force of the law applied to anyone spreading hatred and division instead of exercising their right to peaceful protest.
