I so appreciate what Steve Banks and the Law Department is doing here. We should be aggressive about going after these dishonest and corrupt firms and co-conspirators who are making bank off of taxpayer dollars.

This, and if corporations continue to collaborate with ICE, the Council should use subpoena power to require them to tell the public exactly how and why they're collaborating.
More than 100 elected officials have joined me in calling on parking lot and garage owners across New York City: Don’t give ICE a place to operate. Don’t rent to them. Tell them they’re not welcome.
Last week, ICE agents shot Oscar Belgal in the neck in Marble Hill while his 5-year-old son sat in the car. They had been staging nearby in a private parking lot.
Our city laws keep ICE off public property. Now, we’re calling on private property owners to do the same. One garage on Morton Street already removed ICE vehicles after neighbors spoke out. Every owner has that power.

Electeds AND new moms get it - free full day care is essential!

We warned this would happen. ICE shot a Bronx neighbor today.
New York needs answers, accountability, and ICE out of our city now!

Based on our hearing today, seems like we're still on track.
Looking forward to the enrollment data coming out in November which will help us understand the full picture of providers & children served, and what needs to be considered for the expansion to 10K more kids next year.
In response to @kaymsanto questions about the future 2-K to @nycchildcare :
1) 2-K will continue to be full-day, full-year as the default moving forward
2) 2-K will be universal by year 4
Every Ivan & Evan on here who can’t find Bay Ridge on a map, much less ever choose to live here, love to tell me what we need.
The parking is sub-cellar and didn’t take away from housing. The 20 fewer units are largely due to my demand for more family-sized units, which we lack.
For the last several months I have been in negotiations with the developers for the Staples property. Read my full statements a details of the results below
Yesterday I asked Anthropic and OpenAI, companies of 5000+ people, how many people are dedicated to preventing misaligned AI from causing the total extinction of humanity?
25? A few hundred? No idea?
Impossible to believe they are serious about the risk.

CM Santosuosso asks top AI companies a pretty basic question: How many employees are working on safeguards to prevent catastrophic risk—the “end of civilization” stuff their own CEOs warn about?
The answer: out of ~5,000 employees, about 20.
These people are not serious.

It’s not like we didn’t already know, but I’m glad today’s City Council hearing made it abundantly clear: the biggest AI corporations can’t be trusted to regulate themselves.
It’s up to us to ensure they don’t put New Yorkers’ safety at risk. – at Brooklyn, NY
It’s all good, everyone. 25 people at Anthropic are dedicated to preventing the total extinction of humanity. Or is it 200?
@nycdistrict1 asks what legislation the companies are against on a state or federal level?
None of the company reps answer the question, they just say what they have supported. No surprise there.
@kaymsanto asks Anthropic's Graham how many people are on his red team (he says like 25 on his team, but several hundred people overall are working on different pieces of the catastrophic risk problem). She asks if he feels this is sufficient. He says "yeah...and we need to continue doing more." She then asks the staffing question to OpenAI, the rep says she will have to get back with the council.
I will note: the amount of council members in this hearing continues to drastically dwindle, and we are still on panel 2!
One of the panelists in today’s AI hearing seriously just cited AI’s role in reducing Waymo crashes as an example of how AI can keep us safe.
Don’t you see? We need the for-profit robots to keep us safe from the for-profit robots!

Recap of AI hearing so far:
The AI companies LOVE safety. It's their #1 priority.
How safe are their models? No idea.
How likely is a catastrophe? Couldn't say.
Who's responsible if something goes wrong? Uncertain.
But safety? Their favorite thing. 100% for certain.
Attention Coney Island NYCHA Residents! Today (Thursday, Oct 1st) there will be an interruption to hot water service at Surfside Gardens buildings 1, 2, and 3, all O’Dwyer buildings, and Site 8. Thank you for your patience while this phase of the project is completed!
Don't sleep on Al-Reef. Or do, and don't tell anyone. Fine with me.
Thanks @theNYCalliance!
